Is it Rorion? Rickson? Now, age Im sure will be a factor, but comparing the younger with the older does the younger have the same skill as the older did when they were that age or do they have more? Less? Thank you. -K

  1. The Gracie family is a prime example of it being good to start young. I'm sure that when someone is born into the Gracie family that soon as they can walk they start to train.

I'm sure that they did do a lot of propaganda coming up, but that was just advertising for their "Business". I'm sure if they didn't do it then someone else would have. You have to admit that it was a pretty good idea and it worked too. So far as which one is the best I'm not so sure. Royce was the face of Brazilian Jujitsu for the people that knew nothing about it and seeing him with the system was something that most never seen, or expected to see in such a way. When you thought of martial arts most thought of knockouts with kicks, punches, and for some knees and elbows. At the very least it exposed a area that most fighters had ignored for a long time and for that it was a good thing.

  2. Rickson by far is the best. He is the family champ. All his brothers have said publicly. There was a cousin named Rolls who was 1 year older than Rorion. He was killed in an accident in 1982 aged 31. He was pre-Rickson the family champ. There is a story of another Brazilian named Zulu who was terrified of Rolls so he chose to fight a younger Rickson. Rickson beat him twice establishing his reputation in the process. Rolls was very well rounded and incorporated alot of other styles into his game like wrestling freestyle and sambo. He is truly a mma before it was even created.

  3. The general concensus would say Rickson.  The Gracies have stated it themselves.  Regarding his age, I don't know if there's been a move to replace him as the family's champion.

  4. Rickson - with a record of 400+ wins and no losses (or maybe 1 in a Sambo tourney in the 90's) he's pretty much got it for the greatest jiu jitsu practicioner in the family.

It has been said that he didn't fight any top guys, but he has won against champions in vale tudo, pankration, wrestling, japanese jiu jitsu, etc.

Remember, the guy is 50 years old...  He was out there fighting all styles before MMA was such a phenomenon.

  5. The best right now is Ryron, oldest son of Rorion. Rener, his younger brother, is also a phenom. They are real close right now. They own anyone they face. Ralek, another son of Rorion, just started his MMA career.

Ryron is the man if you ask me. He is also funny as can be and a great teacher. Hard to say if he is better than Rener, but he has a couple years on him. I view them as equals.

  6. Roger Gracie is the most skilled Gracie (if you're talking pure jiu jitsu), he's won the Mundials and Abu Dhabi several times over. Renzo is probably the most accomplished in MMA.

  7. Without a lot of knowledge of Rorion's or Rickson's abilities, I would have to go with ROYCE because of his amazing showings in the UFC.

  8. i dont know sorry

  9. Rickson

  10. They hyped themselves up and fought only those they knew they could beat.  They wouldn't accept challenges from anybody without a large monetary purse.  And if there was a serious contender out to defeat them, say from Holland or Russia, the Gracies would back down.  The Gracies would sneak a video camera into a McDojo and claimed the instructor they beat on film was a master or a simple demonstation of a throw was a defeat for the other style.  And whenever a Gracie student was defeated they always cried long and loud that they were cheated by a bad call and were gypped out of a victory by a prejudiced referree.  Now in the past several years Gracie Jiu JItsu/BJJ is reinventing itself into Judo.
