  2. The oldest player ever to be drafted into the NHL was Helmut Balderis who was 36 at the time of the 1989 NHL draft. He was selected in the 12th round by the Minnesota North Stars. He was an offensive star in the Soviet leagues, but could not duplicate those kind of numbers in the NHL and played only 26 games, scoring only 9 points.
