  4. Why should they get a state funeral, they can afford to pay like everyone else, State funerals should be for down and outs and suicides, even a suicide bomber should have a decent christian burial.

  5. I'm pretty sure it was Winston Churchill

  6. Very few people other than ruling monarchs are accorded state funerals.

There have been exceptions over the years.

Other nineteenth-century figures, besides Nelson, to have state funerals include the great statesmen and prime ministers, Viscount Palmerston and William Ewart Gladstone. The family of Benjamin Disraeli, however, refused a state funeral for him.

Perhaps the most magnificent state funeral during Queen Victoria's reign was that of Arthur Wellesley,Duke of Wellington. Just as Nelson was the hero of the Battle of Trafalgar, Wellington was the hero of the Battle of Waterloo, commanding the forces that defeated Napoleon. Unlike Nelson, Wellington was also a politician. He was the Prime Minister from 1828 to 1840. He died in 1852.

A very different figure from these political and military figures was the leader of fashion Richard 'Beau' Nash. But it seems that he, too, had a state funeral.

In 1965, Winston Churchill was afforded a state funeral to honour his life as a great war leader.

His body travelled on a gun carriage from Waterloo Station to St Paul's Cathedral where it was borne up the steps by officers from the Grenadier Guards.

These apart, the term "state funeral" has been reserved for reigning kings and queens.

  7. Diana's was not a state funeral. Just because it was public doesn't make it a state event. Hers was a hybrid royal funeral. She wasn't a royal, but her sons are, so they cobbled together a type of royal event.

The late Queen Mother also received a royal funeral since she was no longer Queen Consort.

Sir Winston Churchill received the rare honour of a state funeral because of the key role he played in defeating Hitler and the n***s during WWII.
