Who is the unsung 'blood & guts guy' on your favorite team?

Please don't tell me about the glorified ones, I just want to uncover some just under the radar.

Like Matt Bradley & Liang ~ who play for the Caps. Matt has had his bell rung over and over and he's not an especially good fighter. He'll just do anything for the team or a teammate. And Liang gives his body up over and over blocking shots.

So who are your unsung heroes we should hear about?

  1. Wade Belak used to be for the Leafs, but since he's no longer there and it's basically a brand new team...I'll take a guess and say Mayers this year.

To the first guy, I would've gone with Komisarek.

  2. steve begin for the habs, hes so small but gives so much darn energie for us!!

  3. Hmmmm, this one is kind of tough. But I might have to say Maxime Talbot........don't know why exactly, but he was the first one to pop into mind.

  4. Ottawa Senators - MIKE FISHER

  5. Alex Burrows

  6. On the Islanders it is Brendan Witt. He's a good shut-down defenseman who sacrifices himself, constantly going down to block shots, making the big hit, keeping the front of the net clear, etc.  When he got hurt last season, you could see the difference. The Isles weren't competitive anymore.

  7. Steve Begin and Tom Kostopoulus for the HABS. Begin is always willing to sacrifice his body for the team. He chaecks hard and he plays hard. Kostopoulus plays hard and really played well in the playoffs for the habs he had chara watching his back for the first two games.

  8. For the Lightning, Mathieu Darche really worked his tail off when the Bolts called him up midway through the season. He worked hard EVERY shift, even when the rest of the team's thoughts were collectively looking ahead towards next season.

  9. I would say that Brent Burns does a darn god job for the Minnesota Wild. He loves to hit hard and never backs away from a fight. He's no Boogard, but he will step up when needed. Just ask the two Ranger guys he layed out during Gaboriks five goal game.

  10. For the Flyers, newcomer D-man Braydon Coburn (9g/27a +17) for the season and Scott Hartnell (24g/19a with 159 PIMs). Both guys brought their "A" game every night.

  11. Henrik Tallinder

  12. Wouldn't say we have one on the Leafs. If we did, maybe we'd make the playoffs.  Dominic Moore??? He's not much of a fighter, but he plays hard every game.

Florida Panthers fans...you've got a great guy coming in Mike Duco.  He was the blood and guts guy on the Kitchener RAngers.  A hard player and a little firecracker as far as temper goes.  He's been one of my favourite players these past five years.

  13. Steve Begin from my university hometown of TROIS RIVIERES, QUEBEC : = )

But it's good that we got Laraque though as it will help distribute the checks throughout the lines.

  14. Anton Volchenkov

  15. Mike Rupp - I still remember when he knocked out Braydon Coburn at the game I was at last season.

  16. Wings

    Last year- Dallas Drake

This year- ???? Like every year, someone will be expected to step up into a role that they need filled! Maybe.. Kopecky? Quincey? Hard telling, but someone will step up to the plate!

  17. <---- this guy, Paul Gaustad

  18. I'm not sure there's anyone left on my favourite team's roster that I could nominate any more.

Dominic Moore did a great job in a limited roll last year.  He rarely had a bad shift.  The rest were just a bunch of overpaid bums IMHO.

  19. you said it and i couldnt agree more bradley and laing fit perfectly into that category.  I still cant believe laing's effort in that game in january when the caps faced a full 2 minute 5 on 3 in overtime vs the pens amazing stuff!
