Before everyone goes into an emotional spin, I need for you all to consider facts not opinions. Most likely, only those who know american history , rather than it's current state could tell me. If you are thinking Bush you're already wrong. However, I did find a listing that placed him in th middle maybe towards the end but I know that there are others that we're horrible during there time. One president was impeached multiple times in the 19th century. If you know history help me!

I just wanted to ask a question, so no Bush bashing. I am not for him but I won't blame him for all my problems like the rest our immoral, vindictive and, self centered society. And besides I am soooo sick of hearing political talk. Pretend this is a history class, lol.

  1. Nixon in my opinion, but james buchanan had problems, Hoover brought on the depression and andrew johnson all divided the country by thinking they could do it. however all in all bush is becoming the greatest contender to be called the worse ever ( not bashing him)

  2. Well, Nixon was pretty rough...

  3. Actually it is too soon to say Bush was the worst. While I as a Republican will say I am not happy with how he ran the white house, this is something that only time can determine because you must be removed from the emotional part.

My first POTUS election was in 1974 at age 19. For me in my life time of voting, I still believe that Jimmy Carter was the worst president we could ever have had. For the most part he was a great humanitarian. He even won a Noble Peace Prize for his humanitarian work after he left office in disgrace.

But the things he did (or better yet, did not do) hurt our country and (in my belief) let up to the attack on 9/11/01.

Only one US president has really been impeached. Two U.S. presidents have been impeached: Andrew Johnson, the seventeenth chief executive, and William J. Clinton, the forty-second. But Jackson was acquitted.

Johnson, a Southern Democrat who became president after Lincoln's assassination, supported a mild policy of Reconstruction after the Civil War. The Radical Republicans in Congress were furious at his leniency toward ex-Confederates and obvious lack of concern for ex-slaves, demonstrated by his veto of civil rights bills and opposition to the Fourteenth Amendment. To protect Radical Republicans in Johnson's administration and diminish the strength of the president, Congress passed the Tenure of Office Act in 1867, which prohibited the president from dismissing office holders without the Senate's approval. A defiant Johnson tested the constitutionality of the Act by attempting to oust Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton. His violation of the Act became the basis for impeachment in 1868. But the Senate was one vote short of the two-thirds majority needed to convict, and Johnson was acquitted May 26, 1868.

  4. Roosevelt!!!!!!

  5. There have been alot of bad presidents, but Bush is so bad in so many areas, that he takes the cake. Some presidents were bad leaders and had corrupt admins Like Grant, but Bush has equalled him in corruption, plus destruction of the economy, lying us into war, and uncontrolled spending and borrowing

  6. I do love how people never really remember history when answering such a question.

it is a tricky question though.  Clinton should be ranked fairly low, but the media wont allow that.

His granting China most favored nation status was in exchange for the financial support for his candidacy.  and financially it was a disaster.  He also managed to put a representative of communist china in a position to decide what technology would be allowed to be sent abroad.  the guy managed to sent several top secret electronic devices to china.  Pretty slick huh?

He should have been impeached for treason.

Harding is of course on the list.  I don't know why VanBurron manages to escape the list.  Or Grant for that matter.  His is thought by most to be the most corrupt administration.  Not that he was personally corrupt.  But he sure didn't manage to do anything about the corruption under him.

Wilson and FDR put the country on course for hard core socialism.  Socialism being a tool for Progressivism. Which is Elitism in disguise. Meaning government by the elite who know better than you how you should live.

Kennedy got us into Viet Nam to protect French interests there.  He was more loyal to the French than to the US.

Jefferson's administration was a total disaster.  I wonder why he isn't mentioned.  Other than the fact that he is deified by having been instrumental in the Declaration of Independence.

The Johnson administration excapes criticism because of his civil rights record.  But in foregn affairs he was really bad.

It would be interesting to see a list of the best presidents and have some folks comment on it!

  7. You just flunked history, me lad.  George Bush demonstrably committed high crimes and misdemeanors while in office.  He committed more of them and caused far greater harm to society than any President before him.  That's not political talk, it's criminal behavior that rates not just impeachment but imprisonment.  Virtually every dean of every law school in the country agrees.  I suggest you forego law school since you can't handle the truth...

  8. James Buchanan and Warren Harding are considered to be the two worst presidents in US history.  Buchanan was ineffective and did little for the country, while Harding was probably the most corrupt president.

While Bush may not go down with likes of these two, I really doubt he'll be much higher.

  9. George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, and Nixon all tie!

  10. The five that come to mind right off the top of my head are:

Andrew Johnson -- Took over after Lincoln's assassination, wanted to punish the south.

Woodrow Wilson:  Allowed the U.S. to be dragged into WW I, presided over the Versailles Treaty ending that war and set the world up for WW II.

Warren Harding:  Even he himself admitted he had no business being the President.

FDR: He gutted the already skeletonized military to pay for his New Deal -- with war looming visibly on every horizon.  Created more socialist programs than any other president -- some of which we are still paying for today (so much for temporary solutions).  Instituted a policy of wire taps without a search warrant (Al Capone), incarcerated over 120,000 U.S. citizens after the bombing at Pearl Harbor -- without benefit of due course of justice (can you just imagine the outcry had Bush 43 done this to the Arabm/Muslim-Americans after 911?), instituted a rationing program of just about every commodity under the sun to help fund "His" war.  Was once heard quipping "Why tell the truth when a lie will suffice?"

And Lastly, JFK.  As a senator (in 1957) he voted "No" on Civil Rights.  And was so dead set against civil rights that he added enough worthless verbage to water down and render it ineffective.  As president, he threw out Ike's policies toward keeping this country out of small scale conflicts that had no relative bearing on U.S. interests (Vietnam) and launched a strike that could easily have been deemed an act of war against Cuba.  And before launching that strike, he cancelled the support for the operation -- in essence, he murdered all 2510 men who trusted him.  It took all of four days for them to die.  His questionable ties to organized crime, his extreme cronyism (brother Bobby was made AG) and, he ignored Ike's warnings about lobbyists in Washington.

  11. Bush the lesser

  12. James buchanan, was the worst. He allowed the pro slavery lobby to flourish and declared slavery was a matter for the individual. He despised the abolitionists and even before he became president he supported  the louisiana purchase and the mexican war which made it possible for slavery to flourish. He supported the kansas-nebraska act which allowed the territories to decide if they would allow slavery and he stated that all slaves were treated with kindness and humanity. In his inaugural address he supported the dred-scott decision of the supreme court which prevented slaves and their descendants becoming american citizens and having rights and ruled congress had no right to keep slavery out of the territories. More damaging was his refusal to challenge those states that decided to withdraw from the union after lincoln was elected. He decided it was best to do nothing and allowed the country to slide towards civil war which leave 600.000 dead. He left office 39 days before war broke out and left not only a legacy of war for his successor lincoln but also an economically bankrupt country.

  13. US Grant, possibly the worse world leader ever. His tenure in office was so corrupt, that no one since has been able to  even come close. Great General , lousy president.

  14. rajiv gandhi

  15. Woodrow Wilson - see the Doc's comments above

  16. bush a.k.a SATAN

  17. Harding with all his scandals did not accomplish much in his term and then also was Grant who really was not qualified to be President whose only redemption would be the fact that Hamilton Fish was a good Secretary of State and one other possibility could be John Quincy Adams which was a lame duck Presidency because of the so- called Clay deal and the way he was elected President .

  18. George W Bush would certainly be up there in a shortlist of possibly one.

  19. I'm going to throw Grant out there since the other viable candidates have all been mentioned.

"Although Grant himself did not profit from corruption among his subordinates, he did not take a firm stance against malefactors and failed to react strongly even after their guilt was established. When critics complained, he vigorously attacked them. He was weak in his selection of subordinates, favoring colleagues from the war over those with more practical political experience. He alienated party leaders by giving many posts to his friends and political contributors rather than supporting the party's needs. His failure to establish working political alliances in Congress allowed the scandals to spin out of control. "

Great military leader.  Terrible political one.

Of course it was Harding who said, "I'm not fit for this office and never should have been elected."
