Who is the youngest competitor at this year's Olympics?

Question

Is there a minimum age for competing? Someone said something on this wall about the gymnasts having to be 16, but i just looked up some of the athletes on yahoo and Yilin Yang is listed as being 15 (granted she turns 16 the day after the Olympics ends!). Some of the Chinese female gymnasts DO look very young (I'm watching them on TV now) but they could just be very young-looking. I'm 31 this month and get told I look about 23! Haha!

The  female chinese gymnasts are supposed to be at least sixteen but some are probably 11 or 12.

I don't know, but I think it is kind of sad/sick how young some of them start SERIOUSLY training.  They were talking about how one of the little Chinese girl's family sent her away to train / live apart when she was THREE years old, and how her family only saw her maybe once each year...and how she called home once and asked them to come and get her and let her come live at home with them and they said, "No, you are going to do this."  

I think that's nuts.  No amount of gold medals is worth giving away your child.

Asian people are look a lot younger than Caucasians. By 16, most Westerners looks mature already, but not Chinese kids. Please check your facts  before saying something stupid.

Thomas Daley for sychro diving. I heard he was 14!

And I wish people would stop saying things like the chinese gymnasts are 10 and stuff. I mean there was a controversy and all but it's not proven, or they would have been kicked out. I'm 20 and people still mistaken me for 16 and one extreme case case, 15. And my mom is 50 but people thinks she's my sister! Yey for being chinese? Not yey for people thinking she's my sister though.

Hmm, I'm not 100% sure because there is two 14 year olds in the competition one being Tom Daley 14 years old and 82 days and the other being an asian female swimmer who is also 14.

the youngest kid that i've heard of claimed to be 14, a sync diver and from great britain. now those chinese girls on the gymnastics team look pretty young....but they say they are 15 and older.
