Before the events last night, the USA had the most total medals, with China in a close second. However, I believe China has the most gold medals. They are completely dominant in gymnastics and diving.

There's no real "winner" in the Olympic Games.

If you mean who's ahead in the gold medal count than China is "winning". In total medal count USA is "winning". There really isn't a "winner".

The country with the most gold always wins, silver and bronze cannot be equated to a gold. A country with only silver and bronze medals has in reality not won any event. The real winners are the gold medalists. Gold is the ultimate standard and the gold tally is the IOC's official way to list the countries in the medal table.

The Olympics is about winning.

Use both the total number of medals and their quality to find the real winner. Add up the total with 3 points for a gold, 2 points for a silver and 1 point for a bronze. Therefore, currently China have 190 and USA have 187, so China are winning.

I think that actually winning a sport counts, so really you have to use the golds as a decider, and silvers or the total as a tie decider.

Either way - China wins.

Another way is gold medals per head, in which Jamaica or a some other small island will probably win, and China and USA will do rubbish.

It all depends on how you interpret the medal count. The US thinks that the overall medal count is key while the rest of the world, including the Olympics officials, believe that the number of gold medals matter the most. The US might "win" if they can keep their 3 medal lead in overall medals over China.. but it is virtually impossible for the US to win the gold medal count.

Nonetheless, it's not a matter of who has won more of what. It's about how well the athletes and coaches represented their respective countries. I just hope our athletes don't let us down by being bad sports about things.

China has the most gold medals but that is because of biased judging. The U.S ,WOOOT!!, has the most medals overall. China is believed to be cheating and i believe that is true. ]:< The U.S is going to win!- we have to.

There was an article on the news that showed the medal results without biased judging but by how well the contestants performed and china only would have 1 more gold medal than the U.S. (not 20 something)
