  1. Ist what the heck is wrong with prostitution? Why is it any different than being a french teacher or a janitor?  The problem is the exploitation. Forcing or coersing someone into prostitution especially someone under age or by using drugs is heinous.  That being said a man or woman who wants to sell s*x to a willing buyer whats the problem?

As for Hopes response.  Your lucky you don't know what your chinese ancestors in Thailand did or had to do to get you where you are today (who they might have robbed, cheated, sold their bodies or killed).  There were plenty of Chinese prostitutes and opium dens in San Francisco (and still are) Chinese don't always have a very good reputation as honest businessmen.  You remind me of the story of the woman who came to the US with $.12 in her pocket (of course she had $4,000 sewed in the lining of her coat). Not every thai farmer gets the chance to go to the US and even make minimum wage.  And most of them will never see $500 in one place at one time.

When your dinner consists of what you were able to gather or not in the field that day (and of course your competing with all the other families in the village) and some one offers you food/money/housing a better life for your children etc...what are you going to do? So you go into prostitution that makes you lazy?  Imagine yourself with a third grade education instead of a master's degree and a starving family.  And someone says you can make 500 baht a day and it seems like a million dollars because you think 50 baht is a lot of money.

Hope you just don't get it, your like the officers in the military who berate the enlisted guys for not getting there work done but they've never had to pick up a shovel and dig a ditch and have no idea how hard it actually is.  If you live in a place where they have housekeeper and janitor jobs, then you weren't poor.  In rural Issan there are no janitors.

    Let the thumbs down begin

  2. Everyone at one time or another does what they have to survive or take care of their families!   Working in a bar is one way for a woman to make more money and maybe they also dream of marrying someone of greater wealth and getting out of the business.

By the way, most of the prostitution and trafficking in Thailand with younger women is primarily with Thai men and not foreigners!

Why not eradicate prostitution in India first?  Prostitution in India is the main reason why Aids is spreading so fast throughout the country.  Especially with the long haul truck drivers transferring the virus from city to city and then to their wives.

What about child labor laws??  Shouldn't that be something to to fix in India?   Or is the main reason you are complaining is that Thai women don't care that much for Indian nationals?

  3. I AM with you. Nice to see that I'm not the only one who thinks this. I personally strongly agree with you. (Me too I have myself good friends who are prostitutes).

I asked a question about a week ago concerning the very same topic (but I have to admit that I didn't introduce it as well as you did...) Check it out :

I am someone VERY open-minded, but I won't ever agree with the fact that Thai girls who are involved in prostitution are doing a right thing. Sure, they might meet a good foreigner who will take care of them. But HOW MANY will just get a sad hopeless f***ed up life ?....

Take care man and keep it up !

    ♣ Peace ♣

  4. I'm with you. I suggest they also ban prostitution in England, US, Australia, France, etc..etc.. and India too.

  5. you know - this is not really much of a question, it sounds more like an opinion to me - - and quite honestly, a bit uptight and self-righteous - live and let live - and you ask why should they live? - you feel they are being tortured, but what are you saying? And it doesn't sound too much like you do have sympathy for them - if you did, you would not want their livelihood banned - no?

you know - to each his own and the world will go around a bit smoother - there are things in this world that I don't like and I am sure that holds true for all of us - - but it probably is tending toward unfair if we put our dislikes on others - - if it is not right for you - avoid it - but again, this is a forum for questions and hopefully helpful answers, and you have nearly cleverly phrased an opinion in the disguise of a question - if someone chooses a profession, I don't think they need someone from another culture to pass judgment - - sorry if I seem a bit testy but I think you are trying to provoke a response..

  6. I agree with visualth, there is a lot more to it then meets the eye.  Plus the only reason Thailand has gotten a bad rap is because the women are so beautiful and nice and the cost of s*x here is cheap compared with other countries, that s*x hungry tourist flocks to this country.

  7. You can never ban prostitution, in Singapore it is legal after all the other things that is banned they realise you cannot ban it.

It is the oldest profession in the world.

In relation to Thai's most of what you see in the Farang world are from Issan but there is also a girls working to serve the Thai local customers.

And in India does it not also happen.

Please solder you need to see more of the world before making bold statements.

  8. You don't understand Thailand very well and it's obvious you have never been to Isaan.

No one wakes up one morning and wants to be a prostitute. These girls are driven to prostitution because there are no social systems here like in the western world to financially help families.

When the whole family is dirt poor, that is it. No money. No food, no clothing no shelter.

Now put yourself in the same position? You have absolutely no way to make money and you and your family are starving. What are you willing to do now?

I have to admire the courage of any woman that can sacrifice her own future to financially support her own family with the only means she can. These girls are not all totally stupid like you think. They realize by doing this, they almost 100% give up the chance to ever get married.

However, the utmost dedication to taking care of mother, father, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles etc is also put before their own well being.

Tour around Isaan sometime is all I can say. I do not think you realize the dire poverty some of these girls come from. I knew one girl from Isaan and her family was living in nothing more than a shack that was falling down.

This girls accept the fact that is their responsibility to make money anyway they can to support their families.

You can say and think what ever you want, until you have been there, you will never understand that poverty is what drives these girls to prostitution.

Give them a choice of an office job (most have little to no education) and prostitution, and their wouldn't be as many prostitutes, I can guarantee that.

No one is here to help, only to make the matters much worse exploiting an already impossible situation for these girls. Everyone one of these girls cries, feels pain and dreams of a way out of there.

Instead of sympathizing on Yahoo, why dont you do something real if you are so concerned? Too much talk and no action. Until there is action, there is no solution for most.

  9. There are lots of them all over the world.  The government of every country must join hands in giving these people the right means of livelihood projects and education.

    GOD BLESS YOUR PEOPLE!!!!!

  10. It is very difficult to answer your question. However, prostitution can never be banned in Thailand as long as we can spell the word "Greed"

1.) There are many rich Thais who control the prostitution business. They lie, kidnap, and force to the young Thai girls to be come prostitutes.

2.) There are many Thai women who don't want to work hard. Unfortunately, many young girls have low self-respect. They sell their body for cell-phones and nice clothes. For those who are talking about Issan girls. Come on, she can be a waitress. She can works in factory. She can sell curry chicken and rice. She can be a farmer. She can be a jantitor. Why she choose to be a prostitute?  The answer is she is too lazy? She has low self-esteem? She has no shame? Your thought.

My grand parents were dirt poor chinese immigrants in Thailand. They came to Thailand with NOTHING!!! My mom and dad have to work as age 7. I understand the word "Poverty" I used to work as a house keeper to support myself through college in the USA. I am now having a Master's Degree.

Never regret and embarass being a janitor, but rather die if I have to sell myself to survive.

  11. they should get the h**l out the country. why the heck are they prostitutes?
