Who is your Favorite Villian in Books, movies, comics, etc.?

Who do you assume is the nastiest villain of all time. Some may say the Joker, other say Hannibal and a few others say Dr. Doom or the Master (from DR. Who)

Now you pick the worst villain of all time and why?

This is more difficult than I thought it would.  Right now it's a toss up between Tom Riddle (aka Lord Voldermort) and Professor Delores Umbridge.  Both are cruel and unforgiving, obsessed with power, but Voldermort is also obsessed with immortality.  It's not enough for him to destory all those who oppose him, he's willing to destory his soul in order to assure his immortality.  But more than that he doesn't understand the power of love.  He sees it as a weakness and unnecessary.  He doesn't want his followers to love him he wants them to worship him.  And he wants them to fear him.  Tom will do anything to achieve his goals, including murdering innocent people.  He started to let his anger overpower him long before he learned that he was a wizard.  But the one thing that has always scared me the most about Voldermort is the fact that he has no remorse for anything he's done.  He's like the perfect villian.

Kerrigan, Woman that without using sexulity, became the Queen of Blades, and pretty much ruler of the galaxy. She played her enimies hatreds against each other to her own ends.

My two favorite villains in the comic books are

1) DC:  The Joker.  Started out normal enough--a failing comedian struggling to support his pregnant wife.  But then he had a bad day (which is an understatement if I've ever heard one).

"All it takes is one bad day to reduce the sanest man alive to lunacy. That's how far the world is from where I am. Just one bad day. You had a bad day once. Am I right? You had a bad day and everything changed" --The Joker

2) Marvel:  Venom.  He is probably the most kick-a$$ villain I've ever seen in a comic book.  He -looks- horribly creepy; he -acts- horribly creepy, and he turns out to be an anti-hero, rather than a complete villain, which somehow makes him an even better villain in his earlier days.  (I seriously hope they make a Venom vs. Carnage movie...)

3)  Disney:  Judge Frollo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame.  This is a villain that shouldn't even -be- in a Disney movie.  He is by far the scariest a children's cartoon has to offer (in my opinion).  A religious zealot that sentences heretics to death while he lusts after a woman his beliefs condemn.  "It's not my fault, I'm not to blame.  It is the gypsy girl--the witch that set this flame.  It's not my fault.  It's in God's plan--He made the devil so much stronger than a man."  This villain ranks in my nastiest -only- because he is a Disney villain.  He has the shock-factor on his side.

4)  Movie:  John Doe from "Se7en".  A detached religious 'vigilante', teaching the dirty world a lesson by torturing his victims in ironic ways (based on whichever of the 7 deadly sins they stood for).  John Doe would probably win in this match, because I've never quite been able to erase the image of that condom made from knives.  He actually made the prostitute's costumer put it on by gunpoint, and then have 'relations' with her--killing her in the process.  That's pretty messed up.  A hard-core kind of messed up.

(But I liked Nicholas Cage in Face/Off, too.  Which is weird, because I very rarely like Cage in anything...)

Mephistopheles from Goethe's Faust. I mean, he is the devil himself!! But a very attractive devil, so full of will to enjoy his existence. Cruel, yes. Devil =]

Ozymandias - Watchmen

The characters with whom we can sympathize are always the worst.  When you find yourself agreeing with his logic..."yes.  we should kill millions to preserve the lives of billions...without this the world will never be at peace..." he seems that much darker.  Also, you can't chock him off to being out of his mind.  He is totally, lucidly certain that his plan will save the world.  The true hero is Rorschach.  He's the only one who believes there can be no price in human lives for the peace of the world.

Lord Voldermort from Harry Potter- he kills people just for the fun of it and takes out his anger on anyone who's around at the time!

OMG! you watch doctor who? I haven't found anyone else who watches that! I LOVE it! The master is sooo evil! Also all the other creatures from doctor who, like the vashdenerada (don't know how to spell it- the creatures that kill people by becoming their second shadow- it was on TV last weekend). I also liked the evil santas! hehehe. OH! And the darlecks and cybermen! (can't forget them!)
