OK Earthlings, this question is directed toward all countries. Here in the US those of us without satellite TV only get to see what NBC has to offer, and NBC only shows US athletes and the top three in the respective event.
We all know that Michael Phelps has been the current favorite for the US media yet there is still another week of competition and the track events haven't even started. Who are the national heroes of the other countries?
There were several thousand athletes who walked into the Beijing Bird Nest on Opening night last week, so where are they all? Please mention your favorite athlete. S/he doesn't have to be a medal winner, but someone who warmed your heart, made you smile, or made you want to go and start exercising yourself. The Olympics are about international competition, international respect and global peace; extending the olive branch in victory and defeat make an athlete an Olympian.
If possible, give a link with photo of your favorite athlete. I'm curious about the Australian and other Asian countries, and of course European athletes that we here in the US seldom hear about.
