  1. Somewhere I have never travelled by e.e. cummings really touches me.

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond

    any experience.

    Your eyes have their silence:

in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,

or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look will easily unclose me

though i have closed myself as fingers,

you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens

    her first rose

It means when you fall in love with someone, and have a hard time opening up or trusting them, sometimes they can surprise you with something they may do or say. The poem goes on for 2 more stanzas but the first two really speak to me. It shows how true love really can change someone forever and make them capable of things they never thought they were capable of.

  2. Edgar Allan Poe

    Quote the Raven, "Nevermore."

  3. The Walrus and the Carpenter by Lewis Carrol, completely crazy stuff, just like my life becomes frequently.: D

  4. robert frostt

  5. Definitely Henry David Thoreau.  I grew up in Lexington MA- next town over from Concord, MA where the very famous Walden Pond is...

    From Walden:

"We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake, not by mechanical aids, but by an infinite expectation of the dawn, which does not forsake us in our soundest sleep. I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by a conscious endeavor. It is something to be able to paint a particular picture, or to carve a statue, and so to make a few objects beautiful; but it is far more glorious to carve and paint the very atmosphere and medium through which we look, which morally we can do. To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of arts. Every man is tasked to make his life, even in its details, worthy of the contemplation of his most elevated and critical hour."

Taught me to live to the fullest, take no days for granted and respect and enjoy what nature has to offer!

  6. One of my favorites is Max Ehrmann's Desiderata:

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.  As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.  Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others; even the dull and ignorant - they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.  If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for there will always be greater and lesser persons than yourself.  Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career however humble; it is a real possession in the fortunes of time.  Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery.  But let this not blind you to whatever virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.  Especially, do not feign affection, neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.  Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune, but do not distress yourself with imaginings.  Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.  Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.  And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations in the noisy confusion of life, keep at peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.  Be cheerful.  Strive to be happy.
