  1. Beatrix Potter, Daphne Du Maurier and Carlotte Bronte. All fantastic writers and despite personal heartbreak all rose up to gain success.

  2. My grandmother.

She was in the Navy during WW2, became a successful teacher, and raised my mother and aunt on her own in the 50's after my grandfather died on the operating table during his battle with cancer.  My mom, the oldest, was only six years old.  My grandmother remained healthy, active and focused on the needs of others until she was 90 by delivering for Meals-on-Wheels, play golf, Bridge and taking her "anti-Alzheimer's medicine" (crossword puzzles) and swimming in the lake at her lake house.

She is now 93.  Arthritis and a minor heart attack have kept her from playing golf, but she continues to be a very active woman and an insparation to not only me, but many others.

  3. Shirley Manson probably.Because she's no wh#re.She doesn;t show off her *** and shake it in somebody's face. She makes great music and although she had a somehow hard childhood she still managed to put herself together and become the nice person she is today.

  4. Angelina Jolie.  She is beautiful, but is not "all about" her looks and she does a great deal to help the impoverished all over the world, much more than is publicized.  I would love to have the time and means to adopt children.  She has also helped with UNICEF.

If you are beautiful, it is hard to get people to take you seriously, and Angelina has overcome that obstacle.

  5. Emma Goldman - have to love her feistiness and drive despite any consequences.

  6. I can't believe someone actually said "Michelle Obama" and had 3 thumbs up...

    Uh oh...i mean 4 now!

  7. Charlotte Mason

An educator whose genuine interest in children as individuals led to the idea of teaching by introducing children to the variety and richness of the world in which we live.  She did not underestimate the intelligence or worth of children, and she understood that the best education often takes place outside of the classroom.

  8. I don't have role models. The ideal role model would be a strong woman with an education who can provide for herself and does not depend on a man to provide for her.

  9. Beatrix kiddo

EDIT: sorry didn't see the and why at first. what does it for me is that scene from volume II where she is stuck in the coffin and starts to break down and cry. and then remembers her training with Pei Mei and pulls her self together and just keeps on hitting that one spot in the coffin like a machine even though her hands are bleeding .we have all seen heroines who can kick butt.

to be terrified and broken and be able to dig down and find the strength to fight that is what courage is.

  10. Too many to list.

  11. My mother. She was a very strong person. My father became unwell when I was 2 years old. My mother held the family together, while suppoorting and loving my Dad

  12. Jane Goodall

Because she's devoted a lot of her life to helping chimpanzees. She's done a lot for animals and the environment as well.

  13. Bjork she is the most amazing musician, song writer and  has amazing vocal talent and acting ability. And she's not afraid to go naked and have her own sense of style.

  14. As a child it was April O'Neil off of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ---  now I'm not sure.  Queen Latifa is neat cause she's so self confident no matter what, I wish I was that self confident.

  15. Right now, it's my mother & Michelle Obama. Great examples of what it means to be educated black women! Great q by the way!

  16. obviously my mum .... she taught me right from wrong and if Im a good person like her then I would be happy.

and Colleen Rooney.. I think she is my fav celebrity at the min.. she so down to earth and she seems to be a nice person and I love her style because she still shops on the high street

  17. For sure, be me mum.

  18. Honestly, I don't have any. My role models are all male although I am a woman. I never realized they were all male...I simply saw their qualities.

  19. Katherine Hepburn because she didnt give a toss and did it elegantly.

  20. Angelina Jolie. Smart, strong, unsentimental but with a heart the size of South America. Plus she knows how to be really s**y and strong without being sleazy or overbearing.

  21. Alice B. Gottlieb, MD, PhD.  Authority on the study and Novel methods in the treatment of Psoriasis.

    (there's nothing fictional about her)
