I just read an article that said Zetterberg was a long shot for the Selke and I thought that was odd. I figured he would be the front-runner. What are your opinions? How would you rank the 3 finalists?

  1. My vote is Datsyuk cause of the nymber of takeaways and his overall points and plus minus. But its hard not to think of the playoffs after seeing Hanks play in game 4

  2. You can't go wrong wither either Zetterberg or Datsyuk. I personally don't care, I just want them to win the Stanley Cup. Go Red Wings.

  3. Pavs, Z, and whoever again is the 3rd nomination.

I think it is pretty clear here/there. You are talking about 2 of the best forwards playing now, What makes them soo special is there willingness to play at both ends, up and down. Those 2 front-runners thrive on defense and love to take away the puck and create offensive chances, which they happen to convert quite often, usually in odd man rushes.

When you see Pavs sneek upon a skater and take away the puck, it's like watching the young son lose it to dad and throw a little tantrum sometimes. I believe in the NHL, the guys lok up to the sky and ask how foolish they were to not protect the pucklike they should have. How frustrating for them!

  4. Zetterberg. Just look at his plus ratings and I know you've watched all the little things he's done all year.

  5. I think John Madden will win the Selke i would rank it Madden tied with Zetterberg and Pav. Madden had alot of Short handed goal and most of the time on ice on the PK.

  6. i think Datsyuk will win it simple because of his number of takeaways during the season, Zetterberg is second and Madden a distant third

  7. Datsyuk.

  8. I agree with Randy C above me ^^^^

Zetterberg a Long shot?? Anyone who watches the guy would think otherwise. Did you see how precise he was yesterday? almost perfect, its So derserving.

  9. Was that article by chance from a Toronto paper? They have a unique way of slanting just about every hockey story and you need to take them with a grain of salt. I love reading their trade rumors just before the deadline every year....I actually hurt myself before laughing at some of their predictions. Obviously all 3 candidates are very deserving (Madden is the other).  It is based on regular season and +/- along with scoring and takeaways all factor in (far too often voters rely more on stats than actual game changing situations). That is where people will deem Zetterberg a longshot. Datsyuk had a better +/- and led the league in takeaways so it would seem that he is the frontrunner. I think Datsyuk will win it but after last nights unbelievable  show of penalty killing skill Zetterberg will be the frontrunner next season and that will sway some voters. Madden is also deserving, he plays a very responsible game defensively but honestly I was a bit surprised Morrow (Dallas Stars) wasnt the 3rd guy. It wont matter who the 3rd guy is for the next 4 or 5 years if the Euro twins stay healthy....they are at the moment heads above any forward in all around games.

This year I believe the voting will go as follows:

    1. Datsyuk

    2. Zetterberg

    3. Madden

Next year I see it going:

    1. Zetterberg

    2. Datsyuk

    3. Morrow

Hard to argue with Datsyuk being the choice but you are correct that Zetterberg should not be considered a longshot by anyone.

  10. If they included playoffs, Zetterberg, no contest.  Especially after last night.

Regular season - Datsyuk, hands down.  The amount of sheer takeaways seals it up for him.
