While watching Wales v Argentina last week I was amazed at all the stats about the match that kept coming up, carries, kicks, possesion won etc. Not only that there were stats for each player. How can anyone keep track of all that is happening? Surely it's all too fast?

  1. They have people sitting in windowed boxes with multiple screens, whose sole jobs are to keep track of each Stat.

  2. Mark Lawrensons hair - it is so clever.

  3. the stat people? lol.. I think that would be quite a good job to have..

  4. Different groups of people keep different kinds of stats. The ones you see on the TV screen are unofficial stats by a number of TV backroom people usually sitting in the big TV trailers. This is for use by the media to make it more interesting for the viewers.

Teams will keep their own stats according to their needs. This is usually done after the game by the management team. Referee assessors keep stats during and after a game focused on decisions made by the referee and TJs. However, these stats are not usually seen by the general public.
