Question:

Who know about the Blue Angels?

I've decided that I want to be a fighter pilot or either the Air Force or Navy. I'm particularly interested in the Blue Angels, I know they do a lot of flight shows and stuff but I was wondering... from what I've noticed they're all men (the pilots, I mean). Is that a requirement or just that no women have become Blue Angels?

  1. I could be wrong about this but the Blue Angel pilots are drawn from the ranks of regular Naval aviators. They apply to be assigned to the team and if their skills are up to it they do a tour of duty with the squadron after some training. I think this applies to all such similar squadrons like the Air Force Thunderbirds and Canada's Snowbirds. What they look for is someone not only with the necessary flying skills but someone who can represent their service in schools, Rotary Club meetings etc. I know that women serve as instructors on combat aircraft like the Angels' FA-18's but I think the current policy in the U.S. is to keep them out of combat (I might be wrong on that). You might try logging into their website or talk to a recruiter. Better yet go to an airshow and talk with someone on the team.

  2. There is no offical rule that requires a pilot in the Blue's Angels to be a man.  In fact if that were even implied it would cause such a stir in the political world that it would quickly change.

The USAF Thunderbirds has a Female Pilot flying lead solo.

My cousin is a Navy Pilot flew the Super Hornet in the Gulf, instructed at Top Gun and applied for the Blue Angels.  He told me it is one of the HARDEST jobs to get in the Navy.  Multiple, Multiple Interviews, a squeaky clean record, a career that stands out and puts you above all the rest.

You must realize that the precentage of woman pilot's to men is very lopsided.  As more woman become pilot's, have a shining career, you will see a woman in the Blue Angel's

  3. The Blue Angels website say nothing about having to be a man, so I would guess that there just haven't been any women yet.

    from their website:

What are the basic requirements for becoming a Blue Angel demonstration pilot?

Each applicant must be career-oriented, carrier-qualified, active-duty Navy or Marine Corps tactical jet pilot with a minimum of 1,250 flight hours.

How many Blue Angels demonstration pilots have there been?

Including the 2007 season, the Blue Angels have had 232 demonstration pilots, and 32 Flight Leaders/Commanding Officers.

  5. the standards for the US navy flight demonstration team are quite high. as stated there is a minimum flight hour requirement, but you can bet that most blue angel candidates have at least twice the minimum flight hours. the pilots are also the best of the best. if you want to try out for the blue angels, i say go for it. be prepared to be turned down a few times before you are even considered to be allowed to try out for the team.

  6. well thers a girl in the thunderbirds so thers a requirement only a few pilots can make it into the blue angels or thunderbirds out of millions of pilots around the world its hard to become one

  7. consider the usaf thunderbirds
