I want to move to Crete, I'm "old" but not real old, old enough to want to live on a first floor, if that gives definition (ha ha), I love Greece and have been there many times, but never to Crete, can anyone give some information regarding the major port towns there? I'm sort of a bohemian by nature, if that's any help, I'm hoping someone Greek out there has mercy and "helps" me -- with info. Agapo Olla Hellenica!

  1. Chania is a very beautiful and graphic city with approximately 60.000 population, while Heraklion is a bigger city and not so beautiful in my opinion (it can be compared with Athens). Rethymno is another beautiful port city but very small. Chania, in comparison with its population, has many prostitution houses (15-20). I don't how is it possible for a small town to have so many prostitution houses but if you are bohemian it maybe interests you.

    Search google for photos.

  2. I used to live in Rethymno, so I would definitely recommend Rethymno. It's got a lovely seafront that buzzes with life during the summer and the old town is absoutely blissful, and there's lots of hidden bars and hang-outs that will suit your bohemian nature. I even used to go regularly to a bar called "La Boheme"! The people there are great and really friendly. And the food is great. I just love those mezedopoleia where they serve great cretan food and tsipoudia! Oh, how I miss Crete!!!!!

  3. I am not sure - find EPEK (Е.П.Е.К.) on you tube....

  4. Well like many said Heraklion is the biggest city of the island. It's the fouth biggest town of Greece and is just that:a town.It lacks in beauty and isn't as graphic as the other towns but it has everything you need and personally,i wouldn't want to live in any of the other towns. The other towns(Chania and Rethymnon,I won't even suggest Ag. Nikolaos since it's the smallest) are great during the summer months. They are busy, have many tourists, many seaside shops and cafe's etc.But during the winter it's much smaller. Many of the shops don't work during the winter months and it's kinda quiet for my taste. But then again,I'm a city girl, maybe someone like you(bohemian) will enjoy the peace and quiet and the village quality those two towns have during the winter.Wherever you choose to stay i'm sure you are going to love it.Crete is a wonderfull place to live, with mild weather, nice people and beautiful scenery. For any other info(esp on Heraklion) please don't hesitate to message me :)
