  1. At least on the West coast where I've done some crabbing, I have found that the incoming tide is the best, and a fish head works great for bait.  The fish head contains a variety of fish tissues and smells that attract the crabs, and it is tough enough that it lasts for a long time.

  2. Believe it or not, we have lots of great places to crab here in New Jersey. Ocean City is surrounded by good places to catch blue claws and in my opinion bunker is the most productive bait you can use around here. Many people use chicken because it holds up better in the water and they catch crabs. However, you will draw crabs from a greater distance with the oils and small bits & pieces that drift in the current as the bunker gets eaten. Most bait & tackle shops carry bunker this time of year. All of the back bays and waterways around OC have crabs in them. Try around the marsh grasses and bridges. And remember, crabs are more active when the tide is moving so look for an incoming or outgoing tide. Beaver Dam is not too far from your location and is a great place to catch crabs. Don't forget the bug spray, the cold drinks and a basket or cooler to bring home your crabs. Have a great time, be safe & have fun!!!

  3. Interesting - I've never heard of bunker - but I'm a chicken neck or leg kind of guy, been using it for years. other than that everything that has been mentioned in the two earlier posts - especially Flounder.

Remember to let the ones with eggs go - so they can keep the population going....
