Who knows a nice village at the south England coast to stay over the weekend?

We're from Nottingham and would like to go down to the coast over the weekend, to walk along the sandy beaches and see some nice places. We're looking for some nice village near the sea, with not too many tourists and some quiet spots, unlike Brighton or Blackpool. It should be easy to reach by coach or train, as we have no car, possibly up to two or three hours away from London.

Any advice would be appreciated. :-)
