Hi friends,

Who knows a simple & creative way for making a bar of soap for kids as an activity ?

I’m about to start a small business with friends for kids activities, I want to show kids how can we use simple house materials to make a nice bar of soap. So it would be great if you recommend (a book, website, OR even an idea of your own).

appreciating all your efforts .

  1. Soap is made from lye (sodium hydroxide), liquid and oil. Because the lye is caustic, it isn't really a kids activity.

Melt and pour soapmaking would be more along the lines of something children could do with supervision but then that isn't using simple household materials. You would have to purchase the premade soap base and then decorate it with color and scent.

If you would like more information on the soapmaking process, here is a link to my site which gives step-by-step instructions on making cold process soap.

Melt and pour kits can be bought a Michael's or at soapmaking supply houses. I have listed suppliers on my site as well.

Sorry....I guess this probably isn't an answer you were looking for!! :)

  2. The easiest way is to safe all the slivers from older bars, stick them in a blender, then remold the soap and let it dry out into a bar.

To make soap the recipe is fat (oil), glycerine, and some lye in equal amounts. Lye comes from stove ashes soaked in water.  Just use the water as lye. You can also add a tiny bit of honey or milk or fragrance or even oatmeal.
