I have traveled to most places in Peru but I am still missing the area where the Nazca Lines are located, the Paracas Bay and the nearby Islands, Ica and all there is to see in this Sur Chico Area. Can someone please inform me?

I will be going on my own I don't wish to take a tour, but I wish to do it on my very own.

Thank you.

  1. Well if you have a Car go through the South from Lima Pan-american highway. Pisco is the first stop, Paracas y 10 minutes away, it's about 2 hrs. to get there. If not, take a bus, try oltursa (www.oltursa.com.pe) or Ormeño (http://www.grupo-ormeno.com.pe/home.php)

book the first class, is not expensive and you travel safely.

Once in Paracas it's easy to do things on your own. You go to the pier (it's a very small one but you're gonna see it) and take the motor boats to the Islas Guaneras to see the sea lions and penguins, and the Candelabro (similar to the Nazca lines)  for this boat ride be sure to be there early, the sea gets wild near the afternoon and after that is not safe to go. Yo can go see the Cathedral (a masive rock that sadly collapsed during the earthquake), the natural reserve, and please take the museum tour to see the Paracas textiles dating 1000s of years.

From Paracas you can take a small plane to do the Nasca lines or drive to Nasca (1.5 hrs.) and take the plane there. This will take you the entire day. Be sure to get the plane that travels at the lowest altitude (there are diff. 3 altitudes) so you can see better everything.

Note, The last earthqueake, hit terribly the Paracas area, be sure accomodations are already ready (sorry for the pun) otherwise you should stay in Ica rather than Paracas.

    Visit www.peru.info for further information.

  2. that is not a problem, go to the Ica city there you will find a lot of city and nazca lines tours, (in little airplane to see the huge lines)

  3. Hello, I can assist you with the information you need. I've been in Ica (Paracas, Ica and Nazca) 3 times. I went there with some friends and had a really great time!

When you get to Lima, either you stay at a hotel or you can go directly to the Ormeño Bus station in Javier Prado Ave. Do not go to the bus station in Lima downtown because it could be dangerous.

Once you are at the bus station, buy a ticket Lima-Paracas in Royal Class Service, it is comfortable but not expensive. It'll only take 3 hours.

There you can stay at any Paracas hotel, be sure to choose a safe hotel. My favourite is Libertador Reserva Natural Paracas (http://www.libertador.com.pe/paracas.php... It's a little bit expensive, but the view is beautiful and the food is great! Unfortunately, the earthquake damaged the hotel, and they are reopening it next year. In Paracas you can hire the Ballestas Islands tour. They will take you in a boat to see The Chandeleir and the Ballestas Islands. Take some time to visit the Paracas Museum, it displays very interesting ancient ceramics and mummies. You can also take great shots of the Paracas Bay.

From Paracas, you can take also the Ormeño bus to Ica. It is only 1 hour away. In Ica you can visit the Huacachina Lagoon, which is actually an oasis in the middle of the desert. You can also sandboard in the dunes of Ica near Las Dunas Hotel.

From Ica you can take a bus to Nazca, which takes 4 hours. In Nazca you can hire the Nazca Lines overflight, which costs around $60. I do not recommend do the overflight from Ica because it takes 30 minutes to get to lines, and once the aircraft is above the lines the rude movements can make you feel sick, and it gets worse. So if you feel really sick, you will have to wait another 30 minutes to reach land. So it is better to take the flight in Nazca because it will be cheaper and safer for your stomach (Trust me, I've seen people getting green during the overflight) There are other lines,  less known than the Nazca Lines, called the Palpa Lines. You can overfly both.

I hope you have a great experience in Peru. It is my beloved country, and I would like to go back there this year.

  4. YOu can hire an airplane or go to the look out tower
