Who knows how to bet the horses?

Question

who has a system?.......I'm going for the first time this weekend, and I'm looking for a little advice. I believe there is going to be someone there to help us rookies, but I was hoping for something other than the standard advice....I will only have 50 or 100 dollars to blow

Systems, everyone has one. My cousin walked around the track looking for a man in a red suit. He said he always won when he saw the red man. Learn to study the past performances and learn what class is and make an educated decision from there. Here are some basics. Good luck and enjoy your trip to the track!

Being a first time bettor, you may have better luck and much more fun betting the horse names you like,and the ones you have a feel for.

If you are going to buy a DRF to look through, you could start by 1).looking at horse that are in  good form - meaing horse that are winning or close to winnning  2) horse that are running below thier normal class level and are coming into form 3) Jockey and trainer combos thathave high winning percentages.

You can also look at the website of the track you are visiting and see if there is an expert handicappers picks.. sometimes they can help you out, as they know the horses running and follow the track daily. It does not mean you have to pick their horses but it can be a guide to which ones to look at.  

Check the odds- the lower the odds the more money that has gone on the horse winning. Remember the favorite wins only 1/3 of the time.

Buy a daily racing form, and study each horses odds and their racing history!! I grew up on the backside so I always had an idea who would win!! The daily racing form is awesome for those that don't know the trainers or the horses. Good Luck
