    Vietnamese Grilled Pork

    Ingredients

    2 pork tenderloin

    1/3 cup sugar

    1/3 cup green onion, sliced

    3 garlic clove, minced

    1 tablespoon lime juice

    1 tablespoon fish sauce

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    Directions

1Combine the sugar, green onions, garlic, lime juice, fish sauce and salt in a large bowl.

2Add the tenderloins, making sure they are coated with the marinade.

3Let sit in the fridge for as short as 4 hours, as long as 24 hours, turning when you can.

4Heat grill or broiler in your oven. But the outdoor grill is best.

5My brother's trick to grill these is to put them on the grill, on medium heat, and cover for 7 minutes, not disturbing them. Then turn over for 6 minutes. And then turn off the grill and let rest for 5.

6With my propane grill, I do them for 8,7,6. You want a bit of pink showing in the middle but almost all white.

7I love to eat these with a thai sweet and hot sauce, kids love them with plum sauce, and some just like them as is.

  2. Here in Toronto ON Canada, I have "Bahn" every so often, I like the ham, chicken, liver pate, luncheon meat combo or BBQ pork, even just a veggie one with mayo and lots of hot pepper sauce (srihaca).

The bread is the important thing, and the marinated veg too, daikon, carrot, green onions, white onions, red pepper and you have to get good cilantro for it is slimey and is not a good taste when off, the mayo is a nice touch and hot pepper ingredients are your choice I like the Vietnamese hot sauce myself, I will buy 2 and ther only $1.50 here, and bring them home for dinner.

The BBQ pork is similar to the Chinese type, I have bought a marinade packet in the Asian stores, you add a small pork shoulder roast with the package and the water it calls for, leave it over night and roast it slowly in the morning a let it rest and cool before slicing for the "bahn", all the other are stand deli style meats, and can be bought it the grocery store, they do sell a Vietnamese sausage one I have had an that is available in the Asian stores, for the BBQ pork if you have an Asian market that makes a chinese one, I would buy it or try the mix and your own roast to see how it goes, I had no problems.
