  1. Primus.

    See: http://www.primus.ca

I can't personally comment on their services, but I have some acquaintances who subscribe to Primus as an alternative to Bell/Rogers.

  2. I use Primus.

They have excellent packages to offer and both the packages AND the service are superior to Bell and Rogers.

Basic and graduated services are available, all competitively.

Here the basic phone line is $26.00 with Bell and Rogers, and every telephone line feature you want added costs more, usually in increments of $5.00 per feature.

For reasons I cannot understand they charge an additional fee for you to have push-button /digital dial, even though this  is almost universal and hardly anyone uses rotary dial any longer.

Call display, call-waiting, call-forwarding,  automated messages, et cetera all cost extra.

Internet services start at $20.00 /month for a slow-speed dial-up and quickly double, or triple, depending on the access speed you want.

Long distance packages have additional cost, although they are sometimes described as free but this is I F you are calling someone else on the same system in Canada.

For you, the long-distance package may be of little use or it may be VERY important.

For me, the rate of $69.95/month I pay Primus provides MUCH more than Bell or Rogers offered.

I get the basic service (and I kept the same number as Bell originally gave me) plus unlimited long distance within both  Canada  AND the United States.

Bell charged me $19.00 /month for block time  plus a monthly access fee and there were HUGE costs per minute for exceeding the block time.

The monthly access fee charged by Bell is also gone.

Additionally, (and since it uses Bell lines anyway I am confused about this) when Bell and Rogers both told me they could not provide anything faster than basic dial-up service in my area, Primus delivered high-speed internet that would have cost $40 to $60 per month with Rogers or Bell, once they finally got around to making it available.

Comparison costing showed the service Primus delivers for $69. would cost more than $100/month with Bell or Rogers....about a 50% difference.

  3. Those would be the only two.  Other than that, you would be looking at something like VOIP, but that doesn't fall under the category of "good".

  4. you can try vonage

there are other companies ..actually many, they all go through an existing provider like bell or rogers
