Question:

Who lies the most, pro-life or pro-choice?

It seems to me that the pro-life side has more misinformation and lies especially those who oppose birth control eg. birth control kills babies, the unborn are people, long term use of birth control causes fertility problems and skews the truth a lot more eg. abortion might kill you, so give birth instead (while full term pregnancy is at least 10 times more likely to kill you) or abortion causes mental health issues when post-partum depression and depression during pregnancy is extremely common let alone the increased risks in the onset of other mental health issues that come along with the stresses of pregnancy and a baby. The fact is pregnancy, whether terminated or not, causes a hormonal imbalance and physical and thus psychological stress.

Discuss.

  1. The histrionic anti-choice people who use guilt as a means of manipulation.  The pro-choice side has no counterpart.

  2. I'd have to say the anti-abortion people.

They keep referring to zygotes as babies or children (or women).

They keep saying that those who oppose criminalizing abortion are "pro-abortion" and think every female should get knocked up as often as possible so they can all have lots of abortions.

I think they also lie about their motives. If they truly opposed abortion, they wouldn't prevent policies that would lead to fewer unwanted pregnancies (s*x ed, and available birth control). They really seem to think that no female should have any control over her own body.

And they lie about caring about human life, one the human is actually born. Then they're for killing or letting them die in all the worst ways, from starvation, to child abuse, from state killing, to war.

AND, they oppose medical research, that would use embryoes that would be discarded anyway, to vastly improve the quality of life of tens of millions of suffering, already existing humans.

Not all self-proclaimed "pro-life" advocates do all of these things, but the vast majority of them do.

  3. Anti-abortionists spread more propaganda by far. Whether it's intentional lies or they just haven't looked into the subject in detail is debatable. If the latter they're certainly not willing to look into it.

Practically every single post from an anti-abortionist here states that the aborted embryo/foetus suffers pain. The overwhelmingly scientific evidence states that foetuses aren't conscious until around the 24th-28th week. Until that stage the necessary brain connections just don't exist. I even had one anti-abortionist try to tell me that single-celled zygotes feel pain which obviously is absurd.

Birth control doesn't kill babies. It prevents babies from being born, sure. Why is this a bad thing? Do we want women to be forced to bear babies constantly? Do we want the human population to completely go through the roof? Do we want millions more ACTUAL babies to starve? So much for 'pro-life'.

Anti-abortionists also seem to imply that the majority of abortions are carried out at a very late stage, whereas actually the vast majority are carried out before 12 weeks.

Pregnancy is more likely to kill you than abortion. Also more likely to cause other health problems.

The link between abortions and depression is tenuous whereas the link between pregnancy and post-natal depression is very well established. Obviously forcing a woman to go through with an unwanted pregnancy would put enormous stress on her and would be more likely to result in emotional problems than having an abortion. I guess the exception is perhaps if she comes from a religious fundamentalist background and is brainwashed into believing having an abortion is a 'sin'.

Abortion does not cause breast cancer > more propaganda. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/343181...

Anti-abortionists have also demonstrated their lack of interest in caring for actual unwanted babies and children. Again > so much for 'pro-life'. Most are against medical research that could save and improve the quality of lives of people with chronic debilitating illnesses. Again > so much for 'pro-life'.

One of the anti-abortionists favourite arguments is that the 'unborn' suffers because it is denied a chance at life. This has to be one of the silliest arguments ever constructed. If my mother had aborted me, I wouldn't be here > therefore I wouldn't care one way or the other. How is this of detriment to the 'unborn'???

Conclusion: they are not 'pro-life'. They generally show no compassion towards the woman (obviously her life is not important). No compassion towards unwanted babies and young children (obviously their lives are not important). No thought as to the consequences of making abortion illegal. I find it very hard to draw any conclusion other than that they view forced pregnancy as a punishment for having s*x.

  4. pro-choice lies the most

  5. I think there are radicals on both sides of the debate who lie and deliberately misinform. The people to watch out for are those who are very judgemental of other people's views.

  6. I don't know, but I get enraged when I read about campaigns by pro-lifers to tell women that abortion causes cancer or the other dangerous garbage they spew, and I don't understand why there is no government agency that can shut these messages down. I believe in free speech, but that type of misinformation is the equivalent of yelling "fire!" in a crowded theater, to use the tried-and-true litmus test for restriction of free speech.

And yes...pregnancy is statistically much more dangerous than abortion.

  7. I will answer you questions one-by-one:

Birth Control: Not all birth control prevents a fertilized egg from implanting. Therefor, not all birth control is considered aborting a baby.

Long Term Use Of BC: It is true that SOME women who have used birth for 5 or more years are more likely to have fertility problems. This is just something to let women know if they are planning to have children in the future.

Abortion Killing You: It is a fact that abortion can kill you. Infection, hemorrhage and uterine perforation are the leading causes of death from abortion. I'm not saying that it is a higher risk at all, I'm just saying that pro-lifer's aren't lying about how it can kill you.

Mental Health Issues: You cannot relate post-abortion depression to post-patum depression. They are two different things. Post-partum depression is cause by your hormones changing. I got it, but it went away after 2 weeks. Post-abortion depression can be caused by regret and guilt from killing the baby. I know that some of the depression could also be hormones, but every women that I have talked to about having an abortion in the past say that they regret it and obviously, it isn't just their hormones. These two depressions are totally different.

Pro-choicer's are lying when it comes to the baby being a human. Just because it might not look completely human at the beginning doesn't mean it isn't one. Think of it this way, a little boy may not look like an 80 year old man, but one day he will be one. They are both human, but at different stages in their lives. If unborn babies could talk, people would not have abortions.

  8. Pro Lifers are a bunch of hypocrites and liars

  9. To be fair, they aren't exactly lies....they are differences in fundamental belief systems.

Your wording just seems to further polarize the argument.

  10. I think you are a veritable font of misinformation yourself.
