  1. There is very high quality sound available without having to sell your first born. In my music room I have speakers that are about $1,200 each and are absolutely incredible.

On the other hand, years ago I installed a set of speakers (4 towers, 2 to each side, about 7 feet tall) that was retailing for about $60,000. When I went to the store to check the speakers before the job, I couldn't believe it. That had better speakers for like $5,000 a pair. The owner of the store told me that they had sold a few of those tower sets and that it was basically to people who prefer showing off to listening to music.

My local stereo store has a $400 speaker that is quite amazing.

I am only speaking of speakers because I am only trying to give you a sense of the fact that you can get quality sound at a reasonable price.

I don't know if you're thinking of buying stereo equipment soon but the way to do it is to figure out your budget and then go the store and start listening to what they have. And I mean a real stereo store, not BestBuy or Circuit City.

    Hope that helps.

With the new info, let me tell you that you are wasting your time here. Most people in this category are looking for surround sound for under $400. If there are serious sound people here I imagine they do like me: answer a few questions, realize that they're wasting their time and move on. I still come and see if there's someone to help but it's pretty rare.

What do you expect from people who think mp3s are the greatest thing?

  2. Hi. In 1984 i purchased a pair of British made Rogers Studio 1 Loudspeakers for $1,600 and i am still listening to them today as i have not heard anything better to replace them with. A  Shenda Audio Valve Pre-Amplifier, a Carver C-9 Sonic Hologram Generator and a Quad 306 Power Amplifier drive the speakers. My best Source Component is a Pro-Ject Turntable fitted with a JH Formula 4 Laboratory Standard Uni-Pivot Tonearm rewired with new pure silver tonearm wire and a Ortofon Super 30 Cartridge.Cables are from van den Hul and Cable Talk. The sound of LP records played back on this system throws CD sound out of the window ! Sound quality is very subjective and no two people like exactly the same, but after 40 years of listening i think i know what good quality sound should sound like (to me ,anyway !)

EDIT....Price is not always a guarantee for quality

EDIT 2  ...You might get a better response if you post your question  in the Music and Music Player Section.

  3. i LIKE THE SUNFIRE THEATER GRAND III FOR FRONTS AND REARS, THE SUNFIRE PREAMP AND AMP GO FOR THE 400 X7, AND MATCH IT WITH A GOOD SUNFIRE SUB TO MATCH, FOR A DVD PLAYER I WOULD GO FOR THE NEW DENON BLU RAY, AND FOR CABLES THE BRAND XLO YOU CAN'T GO WRONG, AND TOO TOP IT OFF ANYTHING THAT SAYS RUNCO IS WORTH IT FOR VIDEO.  ANYWAYS 25 GRAND SHOULD COVER YOU ON THAT.

  4. No more than $ 300.00. I love good sound, like I'm in my own Theater when I am at home listening to music, or watching a movie!

  5. If you have enough money, here is a speaker for you.
