i just wanted to know what people online thought of these types of horses, my first trainer always said she didnt like it and would never own one. me on the other hand it doesnt matter as much, i have never owned one, but if i found one that could do what i wanted i wouldnt NOT get it cause if it's eye/face color.

but just cause i'm wondering what people in general think of this topic. . . do you like or stay away from horses with blue eyes/bald faces(mostly white)?

thanks!

  1. My fav horses are paints, but it doesn't matter what color your horse is. It's up to you of what you think about your horse

  2. I like any horse that is good quality and a good mount and partner all-around. I'm a firm believer that you can't ride color, so color is the absolutely LAST thing i look for in a horse.

*I will admit though, duns and dark palominos catch my eye*

Some paints are very nice looking, while others just don't do it for me. I agree with Ayla in that I don't like too much white on the face.

  3. One of the best horses my little sister rode as a kid was a line-backed overo mare with a bald face and "glass eyes."

She always looked surprised because of her eyes, but the only problem we had was that her bald face meant she sometimes got sunburnt on her pink nose.

It's just about what you like.

  4. I (still) like them.

A pony I rode to try out a lease today was a paint like you describe and he bolted with me on him...(herd bound) I fell when he turned sharp and got some nice rug burn from the grass... )= It still hurts... But color doesn't matter to me at all... it could be pink with polka dots...

I did decide NOT to lease HIM though... So now I will be leasing a bay Quarter/ Morgan mare... she is so nice...

  5. I agree with you. I dont think it matters what colour their face or eyes are.

  6. I own 3 bald faced horses.  1 has 2 blue eyes and the other two have one each.  I love them! A lot of people around here do not own horses that bold so I tend to stand out and not a lot of people do not like it and are scared by their eyes.  Others find them cool.

It will not let me put my links in to show you. Bummer

  7. I love my blue eyed baby!  I don't like too much white on the nose or around the eyes, they get sunburned.

  8. I don't really like the bald faces, the blue eyes don't bother me but the bald faces aren't really attractive to me, not nearly as attractive as I find a paint with the darker colors on their heads.

It would never stop me from buying that horse, though, no. :) I look at personalities and comformation, not color.

  9. NO! I don't want to stay away from bald faced blue eyes! To me I don' think it matters. I think the overall preformance and conformation matters. I think safety matters and a loving horse matters. I could care less about a bald face and blue eyes. I think it makes them unique and rare. so thumbs up to them

  10. When owning a horse, it doesn't matter all about looks. You want a horse that is trusting and has a good personality. I personally loves blue eyes! But when its a cremello or a perlino, im not too attracted. Dont get me wrong, those color of horses can produce beautiful babies, but they dont stand out to me. I really dont like when the horse has a pink nose and pink around its eyes. Though some horses can pull it off.

  11. Color doesn't affect quality of horse, but I personally do not like horses with bald faces.  I think they look odd.

  12. I have a Paint with two blue eyes

  13. I have a Overo Paint mare with and all bald face, she has brown eyes tho.  I like blue eyed horses.

  14. I think they are some of the prettiest horses out there. They have character, not the same ole bay, black, sorrel......ect...the only thing that would worry me is the pink skin and having to worry about sunburn all the time.

  15. I'm not a fan of bald face horses. But I love the huge blaze. The blue eyes I love it. I have a All A Round Prospect and he's a bay with one full blue eye and a quarter blue eye in the other one, he has a huge blaze. I have the white on the nose because its gets sun burned bad which makes it hard to clip

  16. I wouldn't discriminate a horse against it if the abilities were good, but personally, I'm not a fan of it. If I was given the choice of two horses that were at the same training level and everything I'd go with the one that didn't have the bald face, but that's never going to happen so no, I don't mind too much! :)

  17. I haven't thought much about it and have never owned one, but I love the reining horse Gunner and he has a big bald face (can't remember about the blue eyes but I think he has them too).  He is awesome, however a lot of times when a horse has a bald face, there is a risk of it being deaf, which Gunner is.  He was born deaf because of the lack of pigment in the ears (because of the white face).  He's still an amazing animal and his being deaf doesn't hinder him.  I'd own one like him any day.

  18. I like the color.  Fox trotters come as paints as well  (I'm talking about the color not the 'breed').

Overall it is sort of silly to like or dislike a horse because of color.

If you are talking about the breed they are basically quarter horses.  They shoot for the same conformation and even allow quarter horses with enough white to register (or at least they used to).  In fact the entire reason for the registry was to register those quarter horses that had too much white.  Now that the quarter horse registry allow those horses to be registered under them the paint registry is actually a bit redundant.
