  1. OMG! I know THAT song! I used to listen to it in the car almost everyday because my parents have it on a CD.

  2. I love this song and especially the way Del Shannon sings it. It has been ages since I have heard it. Thank you for sharing it.

  3. Thanks to my parents, I grew-up listening to 'Runaway', and other songs of the time.  Another of his I liked is 'Keep Searchin' (We'll Follow the Sun)'.

With 1950's / early 1960's artists, I tend not to buy specific albums, but rather various artists compelations, as there are some absolute gems out there.

  4. Oh my gosh! i love this song, but i could never find it!

    Thank you~!!

  5. It's a GREAT song, isn't it? Bonnie Raitt did an amazing cover of it as well.

I never had the Del Shannon album, but I used to have the Bonnie Raitt one.... have this song on a 'best of' CD of hers now.

  6. I like it, never heard it before though, it's nice.

  7. lol i've never heard it but i think it's cute, catchy :-]

  8. Hi Sailing...I grew up with that song, and I think I was around 10 years old when it was released. At that time, there was no other song quite like it.

Runaway has always been known for that high pitched keyboard solo, which sounds like a synthesizer, but it's not. Del recruited a keyboardist by the name of Max Crook, and he brought along his little invention called the 'Musitron', which was an early version of the synthesizer, pre-dating that device by several years.

When we were kids, I remember trying to imitate that sound while whistling. I can still do a darned good job too!

I still own the 45 single Runaway/Jody, the EP which featured four songs; Runaway, Hats Off to Larry, Swiss Maid, and Ginny in the Mirror. I also have the original album titled 'Runaway With Del Shannon' released on the collectible  'Big Top Records' label in 1961.

And yes, I would recommend this song/album to anyone the least bit curious about rock and roll prior to the British invasion, The Beatles, The Stones etc. The album still stands up very well today as an early rock and roll classic.

    Thanks for posting!

  9. If it's from before about 1966 I pretty much don't like it unless it's Blues or Classical, no offense. Oldie Rock just ain't My thing.

  10. old song but still listen to it at times
