Question:

Who loves homeschoolers (e.g. worldwide homeschool community)?

I think you've just got to love the homeschool crowd!

I'm active in a number of other YA areas based on my interests (teaching, business stuff, computer stuff) and no where do you find more thoughtful, polite answers (albeit sometimes tongue-in-cheek like many of mine) than in the homeschool section.

When we first started homeschool our support group was so helpful.

I've met (virtually) some other homeschool family owned business owners like myself - all great people.

So I thought I would just publicly state in the form of a question how great I think *homeschoolers* are.

Do you agree? :-)

  1. Can someone afford to homeschool if they don't own their own thriving business? I mean no harm but you seem to stay on here quite a lot...who does the homeschooling? You or your wife? What are your children doing while you are on the internet? (Please dont get angry...I'm only observant and curious as to how you do it...maybe you could give me some pointers because I am a full time student...with a limited income that desperately wants to homeschool my child)

thank u "blessed" for explaining that to me. i am so angry...guess i am jealous because i want to be like you and the others...but i also would like to know how everyone does it...is there any hope for me?

most hubbies that have homeschooled children that i know (no offense poster)...usually it is the mother's job to do all the homeschooling. the father's are usually the bread winners in the family while the mother's stay home and be a housekeeper, cook, maid, etc. and homeschool the children. unfortunately...even if i wanted to do this...how can i? someone has to bring in money. you have to have money to live. my husband is deaf...he cannot hear or speak...and i am a full time student in college...how can i do this??? please tell me.

  2. I absolutely agree!  :o)

  3. My wife and I (mostly my wife, b/c I work during the day) homeschool our four kids.  They are better behaved and more quiet in restaurants than a lot of their counterparts.  Besides having my wife and I constantly remind them of their manners (or sometimes lack thereof), the kids are taught to think things through for themselves.  One of the greatest aspects, in my opinion, of homeschooling is that I do not indoctrinate my children to the idea that government is supreme or infallible.

  4. I love being home schooled!  Yes, I have good manners and respect for everyone.  Wouldn't the world be a much better place if everyone was respectful of others?

  5. I guess they are polite kids because they are with their parents all day, and they probably make sure their manners are in check. My neighbors are home-schooled and are like family. I also think kids who go to school are great, too, but I do agree that most home-schooled kids have better manners.

  6. Yep.  Ya gotta love us!

  7. Yes! Homeschoolers are wonderful! (And no, the fact that I am one certainly has no effect as to bias :P)

  8. Yes I agree, and that fact that I am mom / teacher to three homeschooled kids really does not bias me at all  ;o)

hefalump (sp?)  I can't really answer for "ysn" personally, but I think that many of us on this board may *seem* to be here all day because we are at home with our kids, an steal away for a moment here and there throughout the day to answer questions.  For instance, if I have explained a math concept to my son and assigned him a certain number of problems in his book, I can sit down at the computer only a few feet away and do some typing, homeschool planning, or answer a few questions on YA.  If my son needs help he will ask.

Now of course if was taking college classes myself, I'd probably need these moments to study and wouldn't be on here.  My time on here varies according to what else is happening in my life.  During busy times I "disapear" for weeks, but during slow times I am on here very frequently.
