  1. The Gold Cup is the name of a boat race, not an individual boat.

    As with any race or series, a manufacturer whose product has won it may market a product to commemorate that win or championship, in which case they might call it by the name of the race or series.

    Ferrari produced cars named after the Tour de France and Le Mans, after their cars won those races.  Norton produced a motorcycle to commemorate their wins in the Isle of Man Tourist Tropy ("TT").

    There is a race on the Detroit River, held since 1904, officially named the American Power Boat Association Challenge Cup, but nicknamed "The Gold Cup."  Any boat competing in that race would have the right to be called a "Gold Cup" racing boat.
