  1. The transformation of the vision  of a high speed train service linking London with Paris and Brussels via the Channel Tunnel began in 1989 when a contract was made to build what was then known as TMST's Trans Manche Super Trains, TMST was awarded to a consortuim of engineering companies, led by GEc-Alsthom-trains.

The  contract required the production of 30 trains for the three railway network (at the time the voltage was differrent)

The trains was given the name of Eurostar.

. The technology was established from the fleet of High Speed Train TGV's from SNCF (french Railways).

Eurostar is to differ as it has an increase lenght 393.72metres! there are 18 coaches (incl:2 loco-2bars)

The train was required to be compatible with the infracstucture of each of the three countries where the train operates from, meaning 3 different electrical voltage power supply and signaling system (before the high speed open). It has also to comply with the hugh safety standards of the Channel Tunnel with included the ability of splitting the train in half in the event of an emergency.

This makes Eurostar one of the most technologically advanced servise in Europe.

Eurostar have now 18 trains including 7 regional sets (White Rose service to York)

    SNCF have 16 trains

    SNCB have 4.

A train counts 770 seats in the 3 Capital Service. (210 in first and 560 in standard class) The train weight 752 tonnes

  3. Well, six answers so far, two of which are proper answers, especially those from  "Mark" and "Everest" - but what's the betting that someone will come on with an answer (most of which will be to say the least - of dubious content) quoted directly from Wiki ! ! !

  4. The Class 373 Eurostar trains were built by GEC-Alsthom in La Rochelle (France) and Washwood Heath (UK)

  5. Mark's answer is correct, but they are not new. They're over 13 years old.
