  1. G.E

  2. general electric

  3. Depends what you mean by 'the best' - the fastest, most comfortable, safest, most reliable?

There was a time when the UK's train manufacturers were tops in all of these, but the fastest trains are now Japanese and French, European trains now lead the UK for comfort and reliability and while the UK's trains are among the safest in the world, their equipment is not the most advanced. Look to Germany, France and Japan for that.

I say this with a heavy heart as I am a UK rail enthusiast of long standing, but I use the trains regularly here and they are cramped, unreliable and slow with poor connections and little integration with other transport.

A sad track record for the country which not only invented the modern railway but poineered many of the technological advances, safety innovations, etc.

  4. Baldwin

  5. F scale: GE and Bombardier

    O: Lionel

    Scale O: Pacific Locomotive Works

    HO: Athearn

Not  Alsthom, their stuff is too finicky about track quality.

  6. To clerify, the Union Pacific does not make trains.  And as most have already said I would have to go with GE.

  7. Tyco.

  8. Alsthom make the High Speed Train or TGV.

Best train in the world, huge economic success.

BTW look at the news tomorow, the speed record will be broken today on the new TGV line from paris to strasbourg.

    They target 570km/h (350mph)

  9. Best locos, GE.  I never thought I'd see the day when I would say that, however.

Their old "U-boats", as we called them, just weren't worth a dime in grade territory.  And, at the time, they couldn't even build a decent toaster................
