Who makes more money a Certified Nurse Assistant or Medical Assistant?

I work as a CNA but am going to school for a MA is it worth it. Will i get paid more?

It depends on what city, and state you live in, and type of facility. Generally speaking according to the U.S. Department of Labor the national estimate mean hourly wage for a Nursing Assistant is $23,920. The median for a Medical Assistant is $26,290 annually. So there is not much difference.

If your studying to become a Medial Assistant to make more money, it will be a lateral move. You might want to look into some other program. The U.S. Department of Labor link at the bottom has a ton of statistics to help you. You might want to also talk to a school counselor.

I definitely think you will earn more, but it will really depend on where you work. I know MAs in hospitals or specialized doctors' offices (like cardiologists) tend to earn more, at least near me. It comes down to each job. I would stay in your job as a CNA and when you graduate from MA school, look around really well for jobs. You can start doing that now and may get an idea of how much more you can earn. Check out hospital websites, doctors' offices....sometimes they will post salaries on the sites or in job ads. At least you can get an idea.
