For a good, reliable, decent burger, that you can find all over the place - in all parts of the USA - I still like the occasional Whopper with Cheese from Burger King, or the Big Mac from McDonalds.  Every so often I have to get one of these - they just hit the spot.  The Quarter Pounder with Cheese probably comes in third place.

Hardee's and/or Carl's Junior also make delicious burgers and cheeseburgers.  Big, juicy and drippy... like I like 'em.

I went to Wendy's a few months ago, because I hadn't had them in a while and couldn't remember what their square burgers were like... and I decided that I will never go to Wendy's again.  It was a waste of my time and money.  Burger King and McDonalds have them beat.  

The answer to this question can also depend on where you live.  If you live in the New York/New Jersey area, some people might tell you that the burger chain White Castle makes the best burgers.  They are very good and even if you do not live in that part of the country, you may still be able to buy them frozen from the supermarket, and heat them up in the microwave.  They are fairly small burgers (and cheeseburgers), but people usually eat several of them at one sitting.  If you have a case of the munchies, these little burgers really satisfy.

If you are in the DC/Virginia area, there's a burger chain known as Five Guys, and their burgers actually have a Zagat rating - and are supposedly the best in the area.

People talk about "In n Out", but for my money Five Guys' burgers are the best I have ever had. Yes I had I-n-O while in L.A. I believe that people like what they are used to having. Best is subjective based on how you like your burger to taste. So technically, best is in the mouth of the holder (LOL).

It mostly depend on what I am in the mood for. But you wont find the best fast food burger at a chain fast food restaurant.

A place called Stanley's Home of the beanie burger in Wichita Falls TX had some really great burgers better than any chain restaurant, and another place with one of the most massive Burger I ever ate, and it was so good that I will remember it the rest of my life was at Midway Lodge in Alaska and it was called the midway royal. I am drooling just thinking about it.

Burgers I don't like is well anything that mcdonalds makes.

Those pesky little bambino things are just horrible-- I ate three for lunch one afternoon and they sat in my belly for hours like I ate a softball- hide and all.

I simply gave up on wendy's as they cannot possibly ever get my order right,  it's not like I'm one of those people that doesn't like certain things on a burger, I just order the sandwich with whatever toppings it normally comes with, a order of fries and a beverage. What I end up with is a chicken sandwich - no fries and one of those frosty- so thick you can't suck it through a straw-things, and it's not like I got someone else's order-- they just s***w it all up.

Carl's junior -- not a bad burger, I like them, but finding someone behind the counter that speaks english would be a big plus in my opinion.

Whataburger! By far...you can get it anyway you like it, and they have whole wheat buns, for no extra charge.  Awesome! It's one reason that I can never leave TX...

i don't know what some of you guys are talking about because maybe in those us of a's mcdonalds makes the best burgers but from where im from a small city of 46,000 mcdonalds makes the worst burgers by far, next worse is burger king then wendys which for some reason doesnt freeze there meat(freezing is proven to be the safest and cleanest way to store meat) and in my opinion A&W makes the best Burgers by a long shot
