Question:

Who makes the best sewing machine?

I am looking to replace my old faithful sewing machine. I used it for quilting, some home sewing and simple clothing. The new machines with all the bells and whistles intimidate me, but I want to get a good model. Any experiences you have had, good or bad, would be appreciated!

  1. I'd look at a midline electronic  myself, if you want to buy new... Bernina, Elna, Juki, Husqvarna/Viking, Pfaff, Toyota.  Otherwise there are excellent  used mechanicals around, though they tend to lack the many of the amenities that make sewing with an electronic so nice, such as very slow sewing without stalling, positionable needle, automatic tieoff, automatic needle up/down, etc.

Most of us don't need the singing, dancing, capable of doing calculus models of sewing machines... but if you look a little farther down into a line of sewing machines, you may well find that there are models that can make sewing much easier without all the bells and whistles.

  2. I never buy brands.  I buy features and prices.  That's why Eve invented shopping.

  3. can you replace it with the brand that you have now? if not i would look at commercial  machines

  4. My family has been using Singer for a long time, and we still do. Not sure if it's the best, but it's been with us through the years.
