Who makes up theses weird hurricane names??

Chantal M is only partly right.

They do alternate between male and female names, but they don't all start with the same letter.

The first hurricane in any year starts with an A, the next B, then C... until they run out of letters. If there are more than 21 hurricanes in a year (Q,U,X,Y,Z are not used) then I think they number them (not sure about that, though)

Hurricanes are usually named with names you would name a child.

For example, 2003 could have been a C year, so all Hurricane's occurring within 2003 were given a name beginning with C, alternating between Male and Female.

Nick is right but after they go through all the letters they dont number them, they start over but use greek names. i'm pretty sure..
