Question:

Who manages traffic flow in Harris County

It seems like they concentrate only on the freeways. The surface streets are the worst I've ever seen in any city. I'm constantly finding traffic lights flashing red (not working), green lights set too short to keep traffic moving, ect... I realize its a large city with lots of traffic, but it seems they have "small town" technology.

  1. Large city? 600 square miles. Second only to the much lower populated Jacksonville, Florida in size. Traffic flow is monitored and controlled by the City of Houston.

Traffic concentrates on freeways because they are the most direct routes to key areas of town. Since we have no central business district this is bound to happen. Considering our population and our climate (blistering hot summers, torrential rains) it is no wonder our streets are not worse.

The technology is state of the art. The problem is that the city was not designed for this many people and so many outlying areas.

I hate to say it, but get used to it.

  2. Trans Star also known as Metro transit Authority.
