  1. Hi, Mexico, the country was officially named so, after Independence War (September 27 1821) and it was stated by Vicente Guerrero and Agustin de Iturbide in the Iguala Plan and after it was recognized by Juan O'Donojú (the last Spanish viceroy).

The name was first used by the Mexicas, who arrived to Texcoco's lake, in the actual Mexico City. there are various theories about the significance but the most accepted is Mēxitli = In the centre of the moon  or in the centre of the moon lake (Texcoco).

Anyway when the Spanish arrived they designed the place as México or Mejico, and with time the people who were not borned in Spain began to call themselves Mexicans and use Mexico to name their new country, that before Independence was the Province of New Spain.
