Who needs to change here?

Question

My wife is a little nosy, and doesn't like not knowing *everything*. My son likes to write poetry, and since his poetry is very private and personal, he chooses not to share it with us. On several occasions, my wife has badgered my son about sharing his poetry, but my son still refuses, and accuses my wife of being nosy. He even submitted a poem in a poetry contest (and won) but we never saw it. Is he being overly private, or is he just upset over my wife bothering him?

How old is your son?  Being that I was extremely private with my writing as a teenager/young adult (and even now as an adult), it's probably a combination of both.  Writing is a very personal form of expression, and perhaps sharing it with you and/or your wife could make him feel self-conscious. If he hasn't accused you of being "nosy," try to have a heart-to-heart with him (seeing that he would have no reason to be defensive with you.)  Let him know that you're proud of the fact that he is obviously talented and you, as your parents, would just like to share it with him.  You don't seem like parents that would do this - but don't - by any means - be anything but supportive of his craft.  Your opinion matters more than you probably know.

If he is a genuine budding poet, then he is a very private person. You must realise that poets speak from the heart! and do not except any criticism at all! and you and your wife will try to judge him by your own standards instead of his standards, and that wont do at all! that's why he wont show you any of his work! And by the way, he does not have to be g*y to be a poet! Have a great day!

well i know how ur son feels...i write poetry and my mom and grandma always want to know my business. so personally i think the mom is being to nosy and should give the kid some space. but if his poetry is that private don't bother him, just let him be :) the mom should change...

he is be very very hurt cause he thinks that you consider him an idiot...i can tell he wont show you that ever

your wife needs to apologize big time and dont do that again
