as a student you shouldn't have a credit card.

What is your definition of best?  Many define best as lowest interest rate or the bonus earned by using the card (hotel, merchandise or airline points or cash rebate).  What ever your definition pick a card without an annual fee.

The only proper way to use a credit card is to spend only what your budget allows and pay the balance each month regardless of the interest rate.  If you can't use a credit card within those limits don't get one.

JimH hit it on the nose - many people feel that they are a required evil though. If you have some self control (this is REALLY key) then you can actually build a really strong credit history with them. I had to work my butt of to get my credit nice and solid, but man, did my score ever move when I proved I could manage a credit card. Try http://applyforastudentcreditcard.com - its only cards for students. Maybe one of those can help. Just be sure to read the fine print to make sure you apply for the ones that suit your lifestyle. Citi mtvU card is excellent -- 5 percent rewards at restaurants, book stores, movies, and video stores.  The Citi Driver's Edge for College Students is also quite good for its 3 percent rewards at gas stations, grocery stores, and drug stores.
