My 37 foot sailboat required an out of the water survey for insurance purposes. How often does the insurance need this kind of survey so I can plan for it during the next haul-out.

  1. Possibly if you let your Insurance lapse and want to reinstate.

  2. When you change Insurance comp> I'm going on 4 yrs on my 48 sportfish>Ask them but you might open up an issue & expence>

  3. Two answers for you here:-

One; when you change insurance companies.

Two; when your current insurance company requests a new survey.

Sorry, but the reality is that each company has its own rubbish rules and policies about this matter.

Some say re-survey every three years, others say every five. I have not known one to demand a survey every haul out or every year yet though. Most people, once insured, will stick with that company and never re-survey until they want to sell the boat.

    Hope this helps.
