  1. i have a motor home paid £40 000 3 years ago only done 4000 kilometres buy i only use mine for towing race car and sleeping at track etc. so basically you need to ask yourself can you afford to buy a vehicle that you may not use all year round? can you park it at your home? don't forget you need to tax it and insure it you think that its not worth insuring and taxing something you wont use regularly then i suggest you buy a decent caravan all together cheaper to buy and own

  2. I don't have one, but I have seen a few sides to the story of motor homes.  My uncle and aunt had a really big one - they towed their car behind them - and they loved it.  And they loved the life style.  But they did not have to worry about money - they were very comfortable financially.  They only ever took the motor home to places they knew well, and they always had reservations for a camp site and so on.  Their motor home was like a small house, and they spent two or three months in it every year.  It was parked in their driveway for the rest of the year.

Other friends have, or have had, motor homes and have found the financial side of it difficult.  Motor homes drink a lot of fuel, no matter what kind of fuel or transmission they have.  They need lots of room for a parking space.  They can be problematic if there is much wind (lots of it where I live).  I know several people who bought motor homes when they retired and they found it was not as much fun as they thought.  They have since sold the motor home and now travel in small vans or comfortable cars and use campgrounds or motels, and they say that this way doesn't cost nearly as much as motor home, and in many ways is more relaxing.

I have another semi-retired friend who has just recently bought a small one - about 28 feet.  He lives in it in a campground because it is much more economical than living in a house, but he doesn't plan to move it much - just from time to time if he changes jobs or just wants a change of scene.  From that sort of perspective I think they are very practical.  Campgrounds now have excellent facilties and services for long term residents especially.

For me if I was travelling I would opt for a specially equipped mini-van, one with good seats and various storage/seating options in the back.  If/when I choose to live year round, or for a good part of the year, somewhere that is warm, I would opt for a motor home in an RV park for sure.  I hope these thoughts help.  Best of luck.

  3. I have one and want to get rid of it since fuel prices also when camping you need to tow another vehicle since you need to travel into town with. I would say get a trailer.
