Who on your team would you consider an emerging leader? This is a young player that is showing the NHL what he is made of and could possibly be wearing a letter on his sweater real soon. Please name the player, team and tell me why.

Bonus: Have you ever witnessed something really stupid at the grocery store? I saw an old woman arguing with the cashier that the bottle of salad dressing was free because it said on the label Kraft Free. You ever see anything along that lines? Tell me.

  1. I would really love to see Max Talbot or Tyler Kennedy do AMAZING this season for the Penguins.

& i haven't seen anybody do anything 'stupid' in the grocery store, but i've seen someone literally wipe down the whole entire cart to sanitize it for a full 3 minutes...

  2. Chris Higgins, if he can count to ten in french before Saku.

bonus: I have seen cheapskates return product they got for free and try to get a refund. But since they don't have a receipt mgt usually gives them a gift card.

  3. I would say Ranger....is going to be a leader.  I love that kid.

Hmmm, I am not sure about the grocery store.  I know I was at an eye glasses place with my friend.  I overheard a lady come in and tell the optometrist that the medicine in her glasses leaked out, because she was unable to see clearly out of them.

Once when visiting my grandmother (she was like 90 years old, and I was about 16 years old), I went with her to the grocery store.  The cashier checkouted her groceries.  Just to save time and make my grandmother feel better (she couldn’t see very well), I offered to fill out her check for her.  So, my grandmother, pulled out her checkbook, signed the bottom, and handed me the check.  As I was filling it out, the cashier said, "You better stop right there, because I am not going to take something that is forged."  I explained to her that my grandmother did sign the bottom herself.  The cashier retaliated, "I am sorry, but I will not accept that check."  By this time my grandmother was embarrassed and upset.  I found a manager and asked him to explain to his bubble gum smacking, trailer trash cashier, that the check WAS legal tender.  So, the manger came over, and told her to accept the check, and the cashier said it was against her "upbring'in".  The manager told her to get off the register, so he could accept my grandmother’s check.  She stepped aside and mumbled something about the devil, and then announced on the intercom that she quit.  I started laughing, and then my grandmother gave me “the look”……you know, the one that says, “You better knock it off young lady. How naughty to laugh at some other person's stupidity. ”

  4. For the emerging leader, I would have to say Brian Lee of the Ottawa Senators... This year is going to be a big one for him; Redden is gone and everyone is looking to Lee to be the next Redden (of years past).

Bonus: Well, this actually happened to me. My last name is Potter and every time there is anything new out in the theaters or bookshelves about Harry Potter, I hear about it. So a few years back we were in the check out and the girl at the checking us out found out about our last name... And she freaks out and says "Potter! Like Harry Potter!"  I just said that we were distant relatives and she freaks out again saying, "No way!!! That is sooo cool!" And she is dead serious... she just keeps shaking her head and saying that is so cool. The guy behind us just stares at the girl and laughs and rolls his eyes.

  5. Well, until Lidstrom retires, he's going to have the C.  But then I think Draper will get the C.  I wanna say Datsyuk, but speaks 1 and a half languages (he actually said that), and i think you probably should speak good english before being a captain.  That being said, I have to say in maybe 10-12 years if he is still a Wing and he lives up to his potential I can see Justin Abdelkader wearing the C.

  6. The West Wooler Cricket team has a young Bowler named Kameer Singh. He definitely is an emerging leader.

Oh you meant for this to be in hockey. Well the Toronto Maple Leafs have two young forwards that are going to be wearing an A this year. Stajan and Steen. But for real future leaders look for Tlusty and Strahlmen as future captains.

I live in small town Ontario but one grocery store story that I remember happened while travelling in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

I was waiting in line at the checkout when the elder patron in front of me asked the cashier "Where is the Kleenex, dear?" The girl answered down aisle "B". The customer then turned around and toddled off in the direction of aisle "B" leaving all her groceries on the belt.

The cashier continued checking her out as if nothing had happened.

Small town life. Nothing like it.

  7. Ryan Kesler on the Canucks and he broke out last year with 21 goals. also with naslund gone and linden retired they have no captain. plus honestly i dont see anyone else doing it except maybe Willie Mitchell.

  8. i'm going to have to say brandon dubinski and marc staal of the new york rangers.  dubinski has a great work ethic and this is going to be an important year for him, i think he will prove it wasn't just jagr building his stats, and he will show the league he is on his way to being a top player.  marc staal improved greatly over this past season, he is developing into a real nice defenseman and before long, he will emerge as a leader on the blue line

bonus:  it wasn't in teh grocery store, but in the parking lot, i saw this little fat asian kid holding a bag of i think it was bread or chips or something that you know the mom asked him to hold onto so she could put them on top of the heavier things, the kid then started singing a song in whatever asian language he spoke, then swung the bags around banging them together, his mom freaked out snatched the bags from him and she yelled at him in asian, he got a pouty face and yelled back crossed his arms and stomped to the other side of the car, she started to say something, then he just yelled as she started talking again, then she threw the bags into the car and yelled again, he didn't move, she repeated herself, then she moved toward him, opend the door repeated herself again, he got in the car and she zoomed off, it was hilarious

  9. Danny Paille (Sabres) is turning into the unsung hero. Young kid with a lot of promise who seems to be reliable in a clutch, and consistant at that.

Question 2: everyday of my life. These are kinda gross, but whatev:

-I used to work in a pharmacy and this woman was insisting she needed 24 inch long pads (yes, those kinds of pads), I'm thinking she has a severe deformity but who am I to say they dont make those? So I cant find anything on the shelf and she tells me I need to get a ruler and measure them. I did like one box when she starts flailing her arms and saying she found them. The box said 24...like...there were 24 in the box. WTF. Here's your sign.

-The other night I was screening a patient for NRT medication. I asked if she was using Wellbutrin or if she had a pacemaker...to which she confidently replied "No, because I just had surgery on my v****a and things like juice go right through me". I really need a new job.

  10. i dont know how much you could count mike richards (flyers) because he is definately on his way to being a captain, maybe even this year... someone young on our team that is definately proving himself is ryan parent. i dont know about a future captain but he is definately in the running

  11. mike green of the caps you can relay on him

  12. For the Flames I would have to say Dion Phaneuf and Matt Lombardi. Both are good you players that will only get better as time goes along. Both have a lot to prove right now but both will be really good players for the flames one day.

  13. Right now, Guerin wears the C, but he's a UFA after this season and I don't see them re-signing him, so Mike Comrie, who has an A, would probably take over the C, if he decides to resign after this season. It will be interesting to see if Kyle Okposo steps up and claims an A before the season ends. He has the talent, but at age 20, some maturity is needed.

Bonus: never saw anything like that. The best I can do is I will go to a 99 Cent Only store and ask for a price check, just to see the look on the cashiers face.

  14. i would have said the goaltender Carry Price for the montreal canadians last year as he did very well but then he got worked so this year ill have to wait until the season starts

  15. One of the most promising and underrated players on the Penguins is Kris Letang.  That kid can skate and lay the wood on people... especially considering he's almost always one of the smallest  guys on the ice.

As far as the bonus question goes, I worked at a grocery store for 7 months and I've seen ALL KINDS of crazy stuff.  There was one woman who came in with 2 carts FULL of stuff (literally, overflowing).  When the cashier finally finished ringing it all up (and I finally finished bagging everything), her total came to well over $400.  The lady looked at the cashier like she just asked her for a million dollars... she was like "I don't have that much money, what are you, crazy?"  We offered to let her put some stuff back if she wanted to take the price down, but she just walked out of the store and left everything there.  Knowing that one of the bag boys was going to be charged with the task of putting all that stuff back on the shelves, I immediately went on break.

  16. Mine is a no-brainer.  Eric Staal will be wearing the "C" once Rod Brind'amore hangs em' up.  It is easy to see he is the leader of the team, plus he stepped up big time when Brind'Amore was out the second half of last season.

I usually just see rude people at the grocery store.  Can't off the top of my head think of anything really unusual.

  17. I would definitely say Zach Parise of the Devils.  At age 23, he lead the team in goals and points.  In his first NHL game against the Penguins, he scored and Crosby didn't!!  (Haha, we still have bragging rights even though Crosby ended up being so much better!)  Parise is very consistent, and never has a bad game.  He never takes any stupid penalties, and even though he's not a physical player, is ready to defenend himself or his teammates.  He's also very reliable in the shootout, where he fakes, shoots backhand, top shelf on the left side.  The only downside is, he's a puck bunny magnet.  It gets really annoying.

Bonus: Wow!  That's priceless.  Sadly I've never really seen anything that funny at the grocery store.  But once I saw this woman buy MOUNDS and MOUNDS of toilet paper.  It was like the 48 roll packs and she literally bought 5 of them.  The toilet paper wasn't even on sale...
