  1. In 1941, Tommy Hull built the El Rancho Vegas Hotel-Casino.  It's gone now, but was located across from the current Sahara Hotel.  Bugsy Siegel opened the Flamingo in 1946.


  2. Yeah, that first guy is right.  They made a movie about it too with Warren Beatty and Annette Bening called Bugsy.

    Oh, and it's spelled Siegel...
