I know each NFL team has a certain number of jerseys, and usually two different pants. But who or what decides which jersey/pant combination will be worn on that given game day?

EXAMPLE: My favorite team is the Bengals, they have black, white, and orange jerseys. Also black and white pants, and I've seen them wear every possible combo, black on black, black on white, white on black, white on white, orange on white, and orange on black. So with all these options how do they decide which ones to wear that day? Is it regulated by the NFL? Or is it totally up to the head coach or what?

  1. Usually they wear light-colored pants/jerseys in the early summer games, and dark-colored pants/jerseys when it gets colder out.

The Bengals sometimes wear all white when it is warm out.

Anyway, the head coach chooses on the Tuesday before the game (to give the visiting team time to organize which colors they have to wear).

  2. Totally up to the team.  The home team in most cases gets to decide what jerseys they are wearing.
