Who or what entity do I contact to get some information on my indian heritage, I was adopted?

I was adopted in 1963 and am some part Native American of the Southern Ute tribe (Weeminuche band ). I would appreciate some information as to where to go and what to do. You know investigate my heritage perhaps get some monies for a continuing education.

You will ultimately need to contact the Tribal Council for your band or nation, to determine what their requirements are for enrollment.  First you'll want to be able to demonstrate parental descendancy from an enrolled member.

If @ all possible find your parents~See the tree~research the line ~then go from there! I am so sorry 2 hear "get some monies"!!!! It"s this attitude that robs many of their Heritage/Family line of History!! SHAME ON YOU!!!

There are two good sites to help you, www. reunion.com which has Message Boards and one Message Board has full time Staff Members to help Adopted Adult Children to find their birth parents or heritage. Contact the tribe directly http://www.utemountainute.com/ should give you some contact numbers.  (This is the tribe that the Weeminuche Band is part of, not the Southern Ute Tribe which is comprised of two other bands and not Weeminuche.) Talk to someone in the enrollment department, give them your family name and they may be able to help.
