well im a fan of marvel comics so i like the green goblin (FTW) but there are ovbiously greater villains out there

im not gonna say any of the batman ones because theyre just ovbious

but another one im a fan of is O-Ren Ishii (the asian girl in kill bill for those playing at home) but yeahh

Darth Vader of the Star Wars series is the darkest villain of them all.  And because it took 3 excellent full length movies over 6 years before he bought it, he's a richly developed character (not to mention 3 more movies' worth of backstory!) who's touched everyone, even if they didn't see all the films.

But I'll bet that the villain who's scared the most people, by far, is Margaret Hamilton's Miss Gulch, aka, The Wicked Witch of the West, from The Wizard of Oz (1939).  She's scared us, our parents and our grandparents. "I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog, too!" <cackles wickedly>
