  1. Coleus are beautiful versatile tender perennials, often grown as annuals in temperate climates. Most of them do best in shady settings, but some newer varieties can take the sun. Tuck some into container plantings or use them in borders. If you're looking for related forums, you might try annuals or foliage plants.

  2. also, cut off the flowering stocks

  3. They are also very easy to start from seed. They root easily in water too.

  4. They will have much better color in the shade.

  5. If your vareity does not have a patent on it , you can take cuttings inbetween two nodes to produce identical babies.  They root very easily and only need a little bit of root hormone.  When they've rooted they will look exactley like the mother plant (the one you took the cuttings from)  This is ideal if you want twin planters or you are using them as a border.

  6. Coleus is used as a summer annual in commercial landscape. They seem to do ok in shade, but really prefer sun and plenty of water. They last a long time if you pinch them back at about 12 inches, if left unmaintained they will usually cycle and decline in about 2 months. Great annual for color and overall longevity. After installing and maintaining well over 100,000 coleus, I can tell you it is one of the hardiest annuals available.
