I've heard people say that the Pope owns Alitalia, but I've never been able to confirm it. Does the Pope own it?

  1. The Alitalians?  (Sorry, I couldn't resist).

The Italian government owns it although there is talk of partial privatization.

The Vatican is it's own entity within Italy and has no formal relationship with the Italian government.  So no, the Pope doesn't own it.

  2. Soon to be owned by Air France-KLM.

  3. Alitalia is owned by the Ministry of the Treasury of Italy, shareholders, and employees.

  4. If the Pope owned it it would not be in financial trouble and on the verge of being taken over (announced today) by Air France/KLM.  The pope is usually seen landing on a chartered Alitalia jet so that's probably how the rumor got started.
