Question:

Who participated in Earth Hour?

I was so disappointed when absolutely no one I knew participated in Earth Hour. Me and my husband had a great time! We played "Uno", and actually lost track of the time and it became "Earth Hour and Forty-Five Minutes" for us.

Please tell me others participated!

  1. I did.  I was at work, but before leaving I turned off the two (fluorescent) lights I usually leave on.  One of them is on a timer and would have been off for most of that time anyway, but I switched it off to be sure!

It sounds like you had more fun than I -- good for you.  And do not be too disappointed about the lack of participation.  I heard from the World Wildlife Fund guy on CNN that last year one city did it, and this year 400!  It is still young, and has obviously grown extremely fast.  I, myself, am amazed it turned out as well as it did, since I have encountered so many naysayers regarding global climate change, and so many examples of irresponsibility, selfishness and laziness regarding pollution and energy waste.

Kudos to all those who participated!  I think it has helped to raise awareness, just as it has raised my awareness of how many people do care.

  2. I did. I live in Vancouver BC. I noticed a bunch of my neighbours turned their lights off from 8 - 9 too.

I was sitting there in the dark (reading with a flashlight) and thinking about how much fun an Earth Hour party would have been... next year I'm having one :)

  3. Hah, i forgot about it for a while, and when I remembered it was already 8:44 p.m. But I participated those last 15 minutes. Well sort of. I had the computer on, =).

  4. Not me.....I don't believe that we can alter what he been happening for millions of years.

  5. My partner and I prepared all the candles at 7, and were eager to get started at Scrabble, so we did.  Like you, we played until 9:15 with no television, radio or anything requiring electricity.   I think this should be a monthly event.

  6. i did!

my friends and i lit candles in my basement

    it was actually fun

  7. My family did!  We pulled out the candles and told ghost stories.  I live in a townhouse complex and I would say that about 80% of my neighbours participated as well.

We had so much fun, we are going to be doing it once a month now!

  8. I participated in Make the Night Bright.

  9. This is the first I hear of it.  Can we do it again, soon? And this time publisize it better, maybe?

  10. I wish I knew more about it!
