It is a spreadsheet. It is used for many reasons. Basically if you have calculations they can be automated using different sets of data. It is a large number of individual cells ina huge matrix. The cells can be used for data, text and formula and can be linked together in varios ways. For example in it's simplest form you could have two cells set up to receive user input for two numbers. The third cell could be set up to provide the sum of any of the two numbers entered into those cells. Can also be used for "what if" calculaions.
